    Hi,

I assume Spyblaster modifies the "Restricted Zone" settings (this zone appears in the Security tab when in IE 6.X one invokes Tools / Internet Options / Security). But does SpyBlaster modify any settings in any of the other zones (e.g., trusted, internet, local intranet, etc.)? Nella

The only security zone that SpywareBlaster adds entries to is the Restricted Zone. This is done by adding entries to the following registry key:

    Code:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]
An example of one of the entries is:

    Code:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains\0190-dialers.com]
    *=dword:00000004
That entry adds the site "0190-dialers.com" to the Restricted Zone by setting the "dword" to "00000004" for the "0190-dialers.com" entry as explained in the following:

Along with what PMU offered above....Any time Spywareblaster is opened....it looks\query's at the below reg keys in respect to the Internet Zone and presents a Interent Explorer Security Alert in the bottom right if it finds a setting out of it's recommended tolerance. Selecting Click here to learn... let's you see it's recommendation. It also sets a value of disabled for the below reg keys in respect to the Restricted Zone....no matter what ones setting is at.
    • Internet Zone....plus what it recommends
      HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\3
      1001 Download signed ActiveX controls....Prompt
      1004 Download unsigned ActiveX controls....Disabled
1201 Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe....Disabled

    • Restricted Zone....sets value to disabled....no matter what
      HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\4
      1001 Download signed ActiveX controls
      1004 Download unsigned ActiveX controls
1201 Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe
      1400 Active scripting
      1402 Scripting of Java applets
1407 Allow paste operations via script
      1800 Installation of desktop items
1802 Drag and drop or copy and paste files
      1803 File Download
1804 Launching programs and files in an IFRAME
