I've just purchased True Image Home 9.0 to clone my 60 gb hard drive in a Toshiba Tablet PC to a larger 2 1/2 inch 120 gb hard drive that I will install back into the Tablet. To do this, I've put the 120 gb drive into a USB 2.0 case. The drive mounts fine and the Tablet can read to and write from it normally. However, when I try to clone the disk, Acronis TI responds with the following dialog box message:

"You only have one hard drive. This program is designed to work with two or more hard drives."

I've tried all the obvious actions from changing drive letters, deleting and creating partitions, loading the most recent build of TI, but I can't get TI to recognize the portable USB drive, even though every other application will recognize it. Curiously. a larger external USB drive IS recognized.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance,
    Tom

    Two things to try.
    1. Make the bootable Rescue CD and use that to do all of the Backup/Recovery/Clone functions.
    2. If the Rescue CD does not see the 2.5 inch external, then make a Backup Image to the 3.5 inch external, put the new laptop drive in the Tablet and, again with the Rescue CD, do the Recover process to recover the Image to the Tablet.

    Thanks,
    1. I've tried the clone process with and with out the second USB drive plugged in.
    2. I'll try creating a bootable CD

Darn, this is becoming quite frustrating. I've backed up my original C: drive to my large USB drive and have tried creating bootable media from TI9 to both my CD drive and SD card. However, I can't boot off either the CD or SD from the Toshiba Tablet. What should be a simple process - promised by the software - is now becoming a full-day activity.

Does anyone have any other suggestions - Anyone from Acronis available?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Is you BIOS set to boot from CD first? Does the CD boot on another machine? Do you get any error messages?

    Possible way out:
    Create boot disk.
    Boot from it.
Do backup of your internal drive to your 'big' USB disk.
    Swap disks in your computer
Boot from the boot disk and restore image from USB disk to your new disk.

If all goes terribly wrong, swap the internal disk back.
    Good luck!

Well, after all the switching and backing up, for some reason the portable USB2 magically appeared on the TI dialog box and the clone worked perfectly. Go figure. I have no idea why it suddenly worked.

    Thanks for your suggestions everyone.
