That´s OK,Pete..Understand that...Been using ATI for years and it has never let me down...But you must agree that the result is astonishing, failure or not...I just can´t see how in h*ll eazfix remained untouched after restoring the whole disk+ MBR trrack 0 included...Just because it so amazing think I have to repeat the procedure once again...To exclude an ATI restore failure I mean...

If you read my previous post, I did explain there why it happens this way ...

Just a slight correction after reading latest ATI documentation: ATI does perform a sector-by-sector image of a disk/partition but only of the sectors marked by the own NTFS structure as used by files/folders.
So, as the snapshot own structure is not any normal file/folder NTFS structure, but directly managed sectors by EazFix/RollbacRx, it is not caught.

By the way, osip, which ATI version are you using?

Allright, repeated the whole procedure with the same result. This time gave attention to the fact that I have only C part monitored by eazfix,so that means when restoring all changes made to D partition would be reverted by ATI,in this case a couple of downloaded files to D should be gone...BUT THEY WERE THERE!

Yes, a failure indeed, everything passed with bravur in ATI but this is proof that the restore was´nt carried through at all...Unexpected and unexplainable!
Sorry, guys, this explains why I came out with no changes at all...A duck but at least a sincere try...

Will now test the same with paragon as some good people already done...

So,to end with my testing: Paragon made it!

But with PDB i did´nt image the whole disk, just C partition but with processed 1:1 sector and with OS aux.files included.Restored from the CD in 25 min, booted up normally with EasFix immediately making a scheduled daily new snapshot, when in win I then was in the newly created current snapshot and when checking I could see that my baseline and earlier 3 snapshots were in place.Tested the snapshots by restoring 2 different ones without any problems.

Meaning:in my case the issue is solved, imaging with Eazfix/RBrx works fine with Paragon Drive Backup v8...(No need to install the program, enough to have fully working rec.CD)

    Good tests! :thumb:
Do you mean that the Recovery Media CD has the option to create an image as well??
As that is not specified on the doc and both me and Wilbert thought it would not..

Which version of Drive Backup did you use? Did you have access to the Recovery Media ISO image without installing it?

    Thanks in advance!

I just purchased Paragon Drive Backup 8 Personal Edition for $25. (2 registrations) and I figured out how to make an offline image (they call it Blue Screen Session).
It's currently processing 50 GB data into an image. :D

Roger, it comes with a bootable CD (download 35 MB), which is larger then the installation of PDB8 (27MB), I haven;t checked it out yet, though.

Bye bye Acronis, thanks for everything.

Wilbert, did you have to install it to create the Recovery Media CD?

By the way, did you check it does access SATA / USB drives as some people have reported problems with the latest Recovery CD version?

    Thanks!

The Rescue CD is a separate download. Haven't launched it yet.
Paragon supports USB in the Blue Screen Session.

    Thanks much again, Wilbert! ;)

So, if you have not tried the CD yet, how did you get to the Blue Screen Session? o_O
Or did you just read it in the doc?

Yes,indeed it has the full functional options...
I have the PDB v8 rec CD iso which I burnt separately...but I also managed to get a free copy with online reg when installing here:
    Code:
    http://www.computeractive.co.uk/drivebackup8/index
try it,the offer still valid up to Dec 27...

If you just want the rec CD why not install, make the CD and then uninstall...

    cheers!

I got it now, Wilbert... it's the startup procedure before Windows loading when it cannot lock partitions for operations and re-starts to execute them within it... ;)

    Edit:

Thanks much, osip, for the infos!

The Blue Screen Session is activated when you disable hot-backup.

I created the Personal Edition Recovery CD and checked some of it's features and functions. The separate download is a self extractable .ISO, no installation needed.

It's fully functional, so you can create images and store them om NTFS file systems.
Also my USB was recognized, but be prepared for confusion, because the external USB drive was named C:\.

I believe that the CD that comes with the free Special Edition is only capable of restoring images.

I stored and restored the PDB image on a USB 2.0 drive with FAT32,yes watch out the letters...Don´t know if it matters or differs but my CD is based on PDB v8 Pro and I have never ever installed the prog itself...

I bought it last night (Personal Edition), downloaded and tried running CD ISO images for the English and Spanish versions so far.

    *** English version CD - showing DB8 version 1914

    - In normal mode, does not mount my IDE/ATA 133 drive (connected to the onboard Promise controller), but mount all others: primary controller IDE/ATA100, SATA and USB

    - In safe mode, mounts both IDE drives (ATA100 and ATA133) both none of the others (which is normal for 'safe' mode)

    - On a raw backup, it does not allow changing to a larger size for splitting files and creates 21 GB of 2000 MB splitted files (totalling 10) for a 24.4GB partition with 15.2GB used space, though it estimates a 12GB size!

    *** Spanish version CD - showing DB8 version 1726

    - In normal mode, mounts all existing drives

    - Allows changing the splitting size to larger values

    - On a raw backup, for the same 24.4GB / 15.2GB used partition, showed the same estimate for size (12GB) but created the same exact number of files with the size I had set (4.6GB) totalling some 52GB

Both tests were performed using the 'fast' compression mode....

I have one more test to carry out with CD versions: tell it to split to 1GB files and if the logics is kept, I will finally get the estimated 12GB sizeo_O

Next, perhaps install the Windows version and compare Blue Screen operations with these CD ones...

    Cheers,

    Roger

Well, just want to share my recent experiences with EazFix...The snapshot´s do not stand sudden power failures in win with a "wrong" shut down/reboot...It happened to me 3 times due to power supply failure and every time the same...It´s impossible to get in the snapshot´s,well, you are able to restore in subconsole, but in the next step I get a BSOD sys failure and the pc gets in an endless reboot cycle...The only thing which works for certain is the baseline, nothing else....Thx God for Paragon DB,have repeatedly restored with all snapshots fully recovered after above all `real´ scenarios...
    Merry Christmas

At least you know now from real tests that the combination of Paragon and Rollback RX works. :thumb:

Have you tried creating a new snapshot from the subconsole and booting from it as mentioned in the post below? :

    Tnx,Roger,for pointing it out..

Hav´nt tried that, can for sure be worth a try ...I doubt it though,in my case, after power off/on, the system reboots,Eazfix detects wrong shutdown and makes a chkdsk, after this I get the BSOD and the system reboots with the same precedure no matter if I restored snapshots in subconsole or not, only exception is the baseline which works...But OK,next time I will try to snapshot the crashed system and see what happens...
