I suppose if you're an office person using Firefox, it might be useful. Other than that, I see no big need for that extension. :)

    Keyscrambler

This question arose in another forum.

"I've just started using the firefox extension Keyscrambler it encrypts keystrokes such as those I type in an already https site (it encrypts for other sites to). I have now upgraded to Keyscrambler Pro which encrypts all keystrokes. What are your comments please."

Has anybody got positive or negative EXPERIENCE to share on this extention?

    :doubt:

It seems to work as it claims to. Keep in mind it only claims to secure the software aspect of text typed into webforms while using firefox. This doesn't protect from screen capturing, hardware level keyboard monitoring, 3rd party applications compromising firefox's integrity, ect. I actually found this thread searching for other users opinions on it. I use it as a layer in my security, but I in no way shape or form 'depend' on anything it offers. I figure the more layers of encryption, the beter.

    There's a IE plugin too.

How do you protect against this?

Hardware keyloggers? I don't think any software measures can help.

Not the scope of the software.

I'm still running it through a battery of keylogging tests, but it is IMHO way more effective than all those anti-hook type antikeyloggers like Snoopfree and related products.

I guess it is still a relatively new approach so the enemy has not adapted to this defense yet.

I agree with that because it hides the real input from keyloggers so it doesn't matter if they capture the keystrokes you type, BUT as AJohn says it won't protect against the screencapture portion of keyloggers.

If we could find some way to do that we would have a seriously good defense in place!

    regards

I know that SnoopFree detects and prevents screen capturing. I am not sure, but I think that Online Armor may do this as well, maybe Mike from OA can clarify this. I was searching around a while back and found that Comodo seems to make a chip that prevents hardware level keyboard monitoring, but i'm not sure how affective it is against things like KeyGhost keyboards with monitoring build right under the keys themselves. Maybe Melih can clarify? Links: KeyGhost - http://www.keyghost.com/index.htm Comodo Hardware Security - http://www.comodogroup.com/products/hardware/

There is always the possibility of some unknown keylogger getting past the anti-hook defense approach.

I was thinking it would be cool if keyscrambler could also hide the text you input on webforms behind an asterisk as you type it,that would solve the screen capture problem for any type of keylogger known or unknown.

That would just leave hardware keyloggers and to be honest I'm not that concerned about those for now.

Most password fields are obscured , so screencaptures won't help.

Screen capturing would still be affective against any webforms the Personal version of KeyScrambler doesn't cover. Even if you purchase the Pro Version, Only IE and FF are covered. That still leaves a lot of opportunity for a variety of messages that could be seen in a screen shot. BTW, it wouldn't be hard for someone to modify your existing keyboard with a small chip to log tons of typing and leave no trace behind without opening the keyboard.

What about credit card numbers? When I book a flight and have to enter my CC no. the digits are not hidden on the webform.

It also wouldn't protect the more popular "keylogging" trojans today that are snagging the data from your browser just before it encrypts it and sends it off.

The Pro version of KeyScrambler (which costs money) takes care of this.
I agree that this would be very possible, there seems to be a problem for every solution and so on. This is why I see KeyScrambler as an extra layer of security, which shouldn't be depended on.

Found another program that seems to cover the whole pc. Anyone got any experience with it.

Heres the link to their site:
    http://www.gold-software.com/PasswordAnti-Peeking-review31560.htm

    and even another one:

    http://www.softpicks.net/software/Real-Password-Protector-2005-16756.htm

Fairly few people seem to know about this. At least I couldn't really find any information on those types of programs or review indication how usefull they are. I think it would be great if one of the members here could test them out. Sadly im lacking the equipment (software, hardware) to do it myself.

    Cheers

I don't think it does, AJohn

If I can see what keys I typed then so can the screen capture logger.

So I guess it really works? It does sound interesting but the vendor is not well known, so personally I´m not ready to install it yet. But I think it would be cool if browsers would implement such a thing as a standard feature, if I´m correct "The World Browser" does such a thing but I´m not sure how it exactly protects against keyloggers.

Btw, DA can you empty your inbox?

    Hi there,

I will briefly describe my experience with KEYSCAMBLER:

After i read this thread I gave KeyScambler a try; difficulties to download and install, 90% of visited home pages not working (module malfunction), works with search engines, AND when I tried to write this post WIN Dr.Watson's Debugger came up ( ProcessGuard) whether I denied or allowed Dr. Watson my Firefox browser closed immediately.
I couldn't write anything. Turning on and off the KeyScrambler didn't change anything at all. I had to uninstall KeyScrambler in order to write this post.
    Really bad !!!!!
    best wishes

true north - Sorry to hear you had such problems with your copy of it.

The only thing even remotely resembling a problem I've had - and I can't even swear it was due to KeyScrambler, since I was also trialing something else at the time - is that when I boot up the computer, right before BootMagic runs, I get a keyboard error message. I can't by-pass the BootMagic screen (I have to wait for the timer to run out) and when WinXP Pro boots up I no longer have the keyboard problem. (Everything works, IOW).

I've emailed them about it this morning - I'll let you know what they come back with. Pete

    Hi Pete (spy1),

thank you for your help. I was really upset about this malfunction. I'm consider anti-keylogger as an important security feature and totally underestimated and overlooked by the BIG privacy and security software developer.
But what should I say; how can you be interested in to buy software when the FREE software is crapo_O?

    Thank you again!

true north - It turns out that KeyScrambler wasn't the problem - I turned it off and un-installed it and I still have the problem. I'll have to look elsewhere for the cause. Pete

*I had recently installed a new, USB2.0 4-port connection on my computer. Apparently, my keyboard didn't like it. As soon as I returned the keyboard connection to its' old, USB1.1 connection, my key board problem dis-appeared.

I've gone ahead and purchased KeyScrambler Professional.
