I know AVG Antispyware was Ewido Anti-Spyware which I use and used, but I wonder how anyone thinks Spyware Terminator stacks up to it. Detection is of course important and I would think AVG has more definitions at this point, but for free ST has Real Time Protection and HIPS.

I would think that AVG Antispyware would be ahead of Spyware Terminator.
At least regarding definitions.Ewido has been around for a while and Spyware Terminator is a late-comer.They almost have to be behind.

It's hard to compare the free versions except as scanners.
ST definitely has value as a rtm and HIPS.

    They are different...

I prefer the ST Shield because it offer a very good protection and doesn't slow down my system like AVG Anti-Spyware...

Well i currently have avg antimalware installed but it appears as if the antispyware component has pretty much no configurable settings from what i can see. It appears its all default setting which cannot be changed, which is a little annoying.

As good as AVG AS is at detection, does anyone think Spyware Terminator has become better recently now that it has more more signatures, aside from it's IDS and HIPS capabilities? And what about the new Self Protection that's been added? Not a bad idea I would think.

I'm using both, at least until the AVG trial expires in two more weeks, then I may keep it as a demand scanner. Thing is, since installing ST and turning the HIPS on, none of the scans I've run using other applications (Except Housecall online) have found anything.(Others are Asquared, SAS, Cureit, and everyone's two old favourites.) The HIPS feature is a fairly serious shield, I think.
Current version of ST is using 8megs, AVG 22 in task manager.
(Housecall found a couple of low/medium threats that weren't detected by anything else, from using p2p I think. Maybe FP's? Don't know.)

AVG Antispyware made my laptop freeze periodically and the auto update only worked once in the two weeks I trialed it. Currently Spyware Terminator runs light, always auto updates and seems to be doing its job without causing any noticeable problems.

I had Spyware Terminator on my PC for ages, and then for some reason I convinced myself that it couldn't be good enough as it was free, so I downloaded the 28 trial of Spyware Doctor.

    And guess what....

After updating Spyware Doctor and running a full scan, it found NOTHING at all on my system. This to me says that Spyware Terminator is in fact pretty good at what it does... When I originally installed Spyware Terminator, it found loads of stuff when I first ran a scan.

I have since uninstalled Spyware Doctor due to slow boot up and stupid update procedure, and I have gone back to Spyware Terminator.
