Acronis True Image 10.0 Home Trial -- Uninstall, removal, registry --


What I did: Installed [ATI 10.0 Home Trial]

What I want to do: Completely remove it from my computer and install a version of [Acronis True Image 9.0].

What I have: Windows XP Home, 4 year old laptop... (this is why I need a backup program......)


While I don't like the idea of registry surgery, it seems to be the only viable option for removing the program? I could also use a Windows Restore Point. Please don't tell me that I just need to run the Windows Uninstaller and then install ATI 9.0 "on top" of it. There's not a chance in the world I would do that, with all the glitch potential waiting in the wings.

Any and all help would be appreciated. And of course, I have a Windows manual copy-backup of my HD in case this all goes to hell.

Unless TI 10 has changed radically then the removal procedure for TI 9 should remove all traces of TI 10

Here's what I did:

Well I uninstalled. Then ran Crap Cleaner. Then manually searched thru the registry for Acronis and deleted any entries I found. 2 entries I had to change the permission on the key so I could delete the key.

After all that, I rebooted, then installed the 3854 build I downloaded after registering the purchased copy I had in hand.

Yes, I was going to go through the registry manually, then I saw a post about removing ATI 9.0 and mentions of Snapthis, Snapthat, and UpperFilters; those keys are not specifically linked by the Acronis name in the registry.

Which brings me to Mark3. Thanks for posting that link, I did not come across it in my previous searches:

I'm quite loath to delete keys that don't have Acronis's name directly in them. I already had a near scare removing Symantec/Norton Antivirus, realizing almost too late that my contact manager, ACT! 6.0, was owned by Symantec under that release, and had it's keys stored under it's name!!

I don't know snot about snaps and filters, and I'm quite hesitant to delete them without knowing for sure that these don't overlap into other system functions or applications, though one would assume that removing 9.0's keys per Acronis-instructions would remove *most* of Acronis's keys, leaving only the possibility of residue from whatever 10.0 had added. But that's exactly what I want to avoid, as well.

Sorry if I sound paranoid. This is only for single machine, external USB HD. Should be pretty simple. But I would like to install this program under the best circumstances.

Another possibility.
Using add/remove, un-install V10 which would remove the file and most entries.

Then using xp system restore, you could restore your registry using a restore point which was prior to the installing of V10.

Then install v9.

Be aware that any upgrades or installs of any type which occurred between the checkpoint date and current date would have to be re-installed or re-upgraded.

 

I am reading this right? TI doesn't uninstall properly?

Please follow the below instruction to completely delete the trial version of Acronis True Image 10.0 Home:

- Delete Acronis Secure Zone either through the wizard or manually

- Open the command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd) and issue regedit command

- Delete snapman from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -> UpperFilters

- Delete snapman and timounter from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} -> UpperFilters

- Run Device Manager and delete Acronis Image Archive Explorer

- Delete snapman, timounter and tifsfilter from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

- Delete TrueImage from the following registry keys:
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\Autopart (can be absent) o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\CDRecord
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\Schedule2
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\SnapAPI
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\Snapman
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis\VBus

- Delete \Windows\System32\autoprnt.exe if it exists

- Delete the following folders:
o \Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\CDRecord o \Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\Drivers

- Download http://www.acronis.com/files/support/schedmgr.exe, open the command prompt and run the following command in the folder you saved the file to: schedmgr service uninstall

- Open Task Manager and stop the following processes: schedhlp.exe, TrueImageMonitor.exe

- Delete the \Program Files\Common Files\Acronis\Schedule2

- Delete the desktop icon and Start menu shortcuts

- Delete \Program Files\Common Files\Acronis folder

- Delete \Program Files\Acronis\TrueImage folder

- Delete \Program Files\Acronis folder

- Delete TrueImage Monitor from the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

- Delete the following keys in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT:
o .tib
o .tis
o tibfile
o tisfile

- Delete the following registry keys:
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\TrueImage
o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Acronis (you may need to grant full control permission to yourself to delete this key) o HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Acronis

- Reboot the computer.

Then please install Acronis True Image 9.0 Home.
