you may read at the comodo news at the http://www.comodo.com .

Comodo Firewall 2.3 Rated Top Overall Personal Firewall
they considered before the result poor for look'n'stop and aftwards they made up their minds, as you can read the explanatory reasons from the tester which I pasted down there below:

"Soft4Ever - the vendor of Look 'n' Stop
Immediately after the notification, we have received the information that our results could be improved for Look 'n' Stop. Our results for this product were affected by its incompatibility with the Windows DEP. On the vendor's recommendation, we have retested Look 'n' Stop with disabled DEP and advanced protection enabled and updated its results. "

The so called "Best" may not meet your own needs at all.

I've tried Comodo for several days and eventually abandoned for it's high resource occupation. LnS is my only choice on win32 platform.

I agree, i have used comodo and it is a great firewall but does consume a fair amount of resources. I currently use outpost which also consumes a fair amount of resources and am considering dropping that as well and going back to lns.

Ive tried it (Comodo) a couple of times, but cant say I really like it. Its a bit too busy for my liking; you never really know whats going on with it!

As Im behind a Belkin Router, I just want a simple firewall, and the best Ive found so far is Look n Stop.

    HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

What was the point of this thread being started in a Look N Stop fourm?
There are plenty of people that use L n S, myself included, not just because of what some test results show.

I must be using a different Comodo. It doesn't use a lot of resources on my pc, and as for being too busy, it's no busier than say ZoneAlarm. I don't even know it's there except for the occasional pop up. :D

    yeah I agree to phantom,

we cannot let the company or other security to judge the security that we going to take on.

I can also said LNS is best but due to its rule limitation, the other alternative are CHX-I or Jetico or Comodo or others that you feel comfortable and secure with.

Do not listen to others saying which product is good........ try it yourself and feel the power of it.

This forums allows you to ask anyone like Phantom and Stem who are experienced in setting up configuration.

[Again I liked to Thank Stem for teaching me alot of things on setting jetico up running so powerful] without him I guess jetico is a mystery to me now.:thumb:

The Jetico v2.0.0.20 Beta disappointed me as it costs 20M RAM on average.

It is supposed that the physical RAM occupation is under 10M.

As this thread is not a Look n Stop support issue, I have moved it here.

The conclusion that the knowledgeable reader should draw IMO is the fact that CPF has come so far in such a short time. Ask the established companies that are charging for their products why they can't provide the level of protection offered for free by Comodo.

Is the coast clear? Oh! It’s okay now! :shifty:

OBgreen I concur! COMODO PF has come along, along way in such short time! And being that it is freeware yet, that is all the more impressive!

COMODO PF capabilities are really reaching out there, and CPF is really getting seen and bringing many curious and interested folks to it (for those who running supported systems)…

CPF is really ‘unintentionally?’ criticizing even the shareware firewalls developments, all healthy of course…

And as for the resource usage of CPF, well I have seen far worse and with far uglier visuals, and by far lot less capabilities, features. While it does have little above normal resource appetite to some (what you expect, as I have said, times you add up the visual and the capabilities, features, it makes perfect, no actually, impressively unbelievable sense), when it runs it runs incredibly smoothly and speedy under many conditions, you won’t even know it’s running until some visual appearances (dialog requests).

I don’t even like most application-filtering based software firewalls, I mainly like rule-based software firewalls with extensive controls over the packets. However I do still think CPF is fresh, still pretty beta, and I dislike the fact CPF development hasn’t yet addressed the CPF + Avast! WebShield conflicts…

Out of curiosity, have you ever tried Jetico? If so, why would you not choose it over LnS? Jetico (v.1) is free, as opposed to LnS, and does about the same, does it not??

Yes i have tried both versions of jetico. V2 wouldn't run properly for me no matter what i tried and was also a little too heavy for my likeing. V1 however did run great and is light on the resources. If i did not have a LnS license no doubt i would be using jetico v1.
I also have an outpost pro license but i stopped using it. I have had enough of these performance draining apps.

Thanks for your response. I have yet to find any reason to abandon Jetico v. 1 for something which might be better. I'd like to know what it's weaknesses -- if there are any -- might be. Yes, it does demand you give permission to all accesses to your system processes, but isn't that what a good firewall (and/or HIPS) supposed to do??

Comodo is good, but I prefer Jetico v1, and v2 when it is finished because it is secure and very configurable like clay in my hands, more than 2 years using it and I have proved almost all of the firewalls in the market.

Yeah, nothing much beats jetico. Its a little old and does have some leaks but for a free, light option its a top choice.

Just to provide an alternative point of view (my personal opinion, based on my own testing):

    Jetico v1:
    - BSOD several times on my system (latest non-beta)
    - Advanced user or forum reader fw, imho. No way to easily/securely configure it, without help from here or understanding firewall low level details

    Comodo Firewall Pro (ex-Personal Firewall)
+ much easier to configure & understand (imho) than Jetico 1
    - very oddly misses some network accesses (latest beta) by applications (lets them through) after an install&reboot, but catches them on the 3rd reboot
    - I can easily make it go 20% CPU usage on 2.4GHz Opteron dual core 2GB RAM (under heavy usage, with "may slow computer" features turned off in CFP advanced prefs)
    - Protocol analysis (not flagged as "may slow computer" feature) clearly a source of system slow down (even on modern fast systems) under heavy use scenarios
    - No built-in foolproof import/export/merge of application & Internet rules (have to use a 3rd party script to take backup of your registry settings)
    - beta versions can't be upgraded, but must be uninstalled 1st (completely losing all your settings in the process)
    - linking between app & network rules still somewhat rudimentary

I still like CFP, but I've gone back to LnS now for the time being (fast, really light on resources, import/export rules works for me, but LnS has it's limitations too: number of rules, leak tests, etc).

    1. I always come back to Sygate.

    2. Tried LnS, Jetico, ZA, & others.

    Halcyon, you said:

I surmise you have some software running that conflicts with Jetico, although-contrary to your experience-mine was that countless softwares and programs ran fine along Jetico 1.0.
Its very light nature testifies it is very unlikely any real conflict.
Are you not including bad Version 2.0 experiences together with Version 1.0,by any chance?
If this is true,i could agree with you, as v2 was a big problem from birth.

I cannot entirely agree with it being an advance user item, either:
while it is true most people wouldnt have made it with Jetico without the great help from this site, including me, it is also true that

1-if you just read the enclosed manual and understand the matter for what it allows to a normal non geek person

2-follow a few basic things like sending the browser to the WebBrowser Table and the mail client to the MailClient Table, then

3-you just answer the pop up questions according to your basic needs which any firewall asks, (similarly to sygate,Kerio etc)

even without making yourself ANY rule you still have a stealth firewall

doing its job like most, or better. Much lighter than most ,anyhow,on a par with Kerio2.1.5, which i guess was the lightest of them all.

I agree with everything you have said above. My experience is the same, almost to a "T".

Jetico v. 1 has been a lot easier to "teach" than I was led to believe about it, with all the horror stories being told here and there. Just set it to "optimal protection", then read the pop-ups, make a choice (better to go carefully on putting processes or connections into the "trusted zone" -- unless you know absolutely if the item is *always* trustworthy), and after a while the pop-ups settle down. How is it very different from SSM or other HIPS ?? I cannot see any difference.

Jetico v. 2 is not ready for prime time on my machine, so I won't comment further on it; completely different experience than v. 1, which is a winner in my book.
