With all the HIPS, CIPS, and Behavioral Blocking programs talked about lately, I still wonder if Arovax Shield or WinPatrol Free isn't enough extra protection with Firefox? I mean many people claim that only an AV, and maybe a Third Party Firewall is enough, and no Antispyware is even needed. So considering what the two programs mentioned cover, aren't they really more practical for most users to have for extra protection with Firefox (and NoScript) than what else has been bantered about lately?

Arovax Shield and WinPatrol arent very broad in their protection, so its for you to decide whether u need them.

i personally don't care for them.

If you want a program that check the registry, try the real-time of Spyware Terminator.
It does a much better job than these two that you mention... ;)

Or you can try the Cyberhawk...

How do you think CH would run with an Internet Security Suite? I have AVG 7.5 ISS installed, or do you think that's enough? I just thought adding WP or the latest AS (due out today according to Forum) would compliment AVG ISS. I have used CH with Comodo Firewall and Antivir PE in the past, but my PC slowed down after a day or so. I received a "back up timed out you do not have sufficient rights" message or something of that nature, but it didn't reappear after I removed CH. It was the latest version of CH, and I liked it and was thinking it would actually be a better choice with AVG ISS. The slowdown just worried me.

Hi,folks: IMO, having AS and WP free just like wearing wind jacket in bitter cold winter, never have an adequate protection. Even beefing up w/ heavy-duty HIPS,CIPS and the like, you still get that cold wind sneaking thru. No add-on protection is ever enough, just becuase these apps from time to time still need to upgrade. Your friend may be right in saying to this effect; you do not need an antispyware, just needing firewall and AV. Why do I say this? I used to have a fleet of AS including brand names and few HIPS and trying to provide myself a sense of full protection, but in the end I still got infected, no matter how careful I may be. Now I have changed my game plan; using sandbox/virtualization app, and just keep top-notched firewall, reputable AV and one good AS w/ real time scanner(the reason I keep this one; AVG`AS plus, is the lifetime lic. from Ewido era), and perhaps adding one free HIPS(prosecurity free). That is all I have , and have been worry-free, healthy ever since. Good luck.;)

    duke1959,

CH still needs a lot of work to work smoothly, but why not use great Spyware Terminator, even that it's just because of its real-time?

    Try it... ;)

I have used ST and liked it alot, but I have AVG 7.5 ISS and although I miss using ST with Antivir PE and Comodo Firewall, AVG suites my needs. No pun intended. LOL. I just still want to have that little bit of reassurance by having something of a HIPS nature that goes along with the simpleness of AVG ISS, and thought Arovax Shield or Cyberhawk (not to compare them) may be the ticket.

V_C. Do you think the next Cyberhawk version will be improved? We haven't heard much from them lately on anything.

From what I read in this Forum, they are making the Pro version and improving both versions...
Unfortunatly, the Free version will not have options to configure it as the Pro version...
I don't remember if I read something about the release date...

Okay thanks. Awhile back when I had Antivir PE, Comodo Firewall, and CH installed, and after a few days my PC slowed down a lot. Had it installed with AVG ISS and it seems ok, so I wonder if it had to do with Antivir Heuristics? I like having that extra reassurance I believe CH gives, but still a little unsure about the stableness of it at this time. I posted about this in the CH problems thread, and that's why i said we haven't heard from Support for awhile, because nothing was posted back. Anyway, tried the new Arovax Shiled, and it kept asking to allow or deny Adobe Photo Downloader to be in strat up, and no matter how I answered it kept asking. Small bug, but I uninstalled it. Will wait for CH improvements on Free version.

I would use SpywareBlaster (since it covers Firefox cookies) and the Firefox extension AdBlock Plus.
For a firewall, Comodo Pro works wonders; big plus since it's freeware.
For Antivirus, you can't go wrong with Avast. Also freeware.
Firefox doesn't really need the extra protection, but it's still nice to have if you'd like added protection and security (even if it's just a sense).
I'd definitely go with Arovax Shield if I had to pick between that and Winpatrol. Arovax covers more and is much more user friendly.
