I went through one of those idiotic "tweaking the XP services" tutorials on the web a couple of months ago and have had a hell of a time installing certain applications ever since. It was nigh on impossible to get IE7 to install, I can't get a Sony DVD editing/burning software to install nor can I get Sandboxie to install.

Is Sandboxie difficult to install? It does have a kind of throw in the towel message on its installer about trying F8 (safe mode) as a second option...

Can you guys think of any services under "My computer" > "manage" > "services" that I might have turned off or to manual after going through the moronic tutorial that I might need to turn back on or set to automatic?

    Thanks
    B.

I couldn't install SandboxIE too, but i think it was related to other security products. I had to disable them to install SandboxIE i think.
At the time i didn't pay attention to this, and didn't know SandboxIE all too well to disable everything for it.

Maybe it's not related to your problem. Is it?

Yes, DCOM is set to auto and is running at this time. I just failed another install. I wonder if Spyware Terminator or Comodo firewall run at a low level even during safe mode ? Maybe one of them is preventing the installation.

here is a couple files you can use to start or stop services.

Just rename them whateveryouwant.bat and click on them to open.

Since they are harmless txt files just open them in notepad to view what they do.

This is the file to start services. You can add or subtract as many as you like

Would never start on my desktop (avast, ST, Boclean). After just one day my laptop (Norton) got into a cycle of random BSOD reboots until I completely expunged sandboxie from everywhere including the registry.

bad experience so far. Any ideas why this seemingly highly praised software sucked for me?
