I tried to update Ewido 4.0 today and something to the effect of my registration code was locked came up. I purchased a lifetime license and am about to attempt to find the documentation. I'm displeased about the "AVG thing" and planned on continuing with Ewido 4.0 in preference to AVG anything! Is this a way of forcing us to update to AVG 7.5? Has anyone else gotten a similar message? This is irritating! Despite my investment Ewido and AVG might have to become a thing of the past! I really liked ewido but am liking it less with each new "upgrade".

Please contact our technical support, perhaps your license number is locked because it has been published on the internet or something like this... For sure it's for some reason... :doubt:

    SENT!

I emailed tech support several hours ago and included a PDF copy of the invoice documenting the purchase of the "lifetime upgrades". No response as yet. Now when I enter the registration key i get a "your key has expired" message. I'm LESS than thrilled but hope it will work out if i keep jumping through the hoops. Usually M$ is the company that requires hoop jumping.

    Feddup,

I felt similarly to you about switching over to AVG.

Ewido was a little company with a bunch of can-do guys who produced a bang-up product -- but then they went to the dark side and sold out and became an insignificant part of a large unwieldy corporation where innovation, adaptability and change will inevitably become stunted.

Like the old PestPatrol that used to be a best of breed product until swallowed up by CA, like Giant software that used to be great and innovative until swallowed up by Microsoft…

I finally downloaded AVG just last week to replace Ewido 4.0. The product is essentially the same, but it scans faster and seems to not turn itself off like 4.0 did sometimes….

What I’m trying to say is – you should go ahead and make the switch. The AVG product is a little better, and I was pleasantly surprised when it stated clearly that my license is unlimited (they did not TDS-3 us) – as I was a Ewido lifetime license guy too.

    Just come to the darkside.

    Made switch!

I switched to AVG 7.5 . AVG's site said our Ewido 4.0 keycodes would work. I purchased a lifetime subscription and yet I'm getting a "key expired" message. I've still gotten no response from AVG. I sent them the documentation on my "lifetime subscription" as well. I'm not holding my breath!

I don't know if this is the official answer, but I ran into the same thing, and what worked for me was updating from the old Ewido website rather than from the AVG website.

    How?

How did you go about that? I'm open to suggestions.

    AVG screwed me!

I'm quoting the AVG email I was sent.

    Thank you for your email.

Please be informed that you have purchased ewido anti-spyware
(1 license) with unlimited updates for time of license period - in your case 1 year.

Your license number has status expired, therefore I would suggest you to renew your license number.

Grisoft offers 50 % DISCOUNT off the end-user price for license renewals.
That means ewido anti-spyware (1 license) renewal will cost you
    USD 14.98

I purchased my lifetime upgrades on the 19th of february, 2006 and somehow it's already expired. How generous of them to offer me a renewal at half off!

I guess that's it for Ewido/AVG. I was fairly devoted to ewido and now all I've got is a bad taste in my mouth! It's a lessen I'll remember well!

Just sent you a PM, looks like something went wrong with your license. Sorry, it's fixed now.

    working on it

Peter gave me some options which didn't work but at least he's trying. Perhaps Monika of GRISOFT's sales team (handled support) didn't read the receipt. I'll try and be more patient. When a "lifetime" (what was I smoking!) membership ends in ten months then I got a BIT upset. Hopefully I'll get some answers tomorrow after the Europe-America time delay. they do have to sleep.

    working for now

For now, at least, Peter got my "new" AVG 7.5 antispyware working. He deserves credit for effort put forth on behalf. I'm a little wary that the program could revert at any moment. It and spysweeper seem to have a few issues but nothing major.

    Re: an easy workaround

Same thing happened to me when my license expired.

You can somewhat work around the problem since the only thing a "valid" key is needed for is updates. Once you update from the "downgraded" version, you can simply reinstall your old key and the full version of the resident will work again.

To avoid the process of doing this manually, I wrote a little autoit script which automates the process of updateing and reinstalling my key every 30 minutes in a hidden window by hooking the control handles. So you can create your own automatic updater in any language, set it to run at startup from the regestry, and it'll work like brand new.

    "lifetime license"

I supposedly purchased a lifetime license. Whose lifetime is unclear. Peter fixed it but AVG emailed me again today saying that I needed to renew my subscription. For now the AVG GUI says I have an unlimited license which, I believe, is the way it should be.

FWIW, I have the lifetime license. I upgraded to AVG 7.5, and all is "working like a charm."

If anything, I like it better now.

    Best,

    reformat?

What happens when i reformat and reinstall windows? Will my present keycode work? Peter was very helpful but I'm going to be very suspicious of any "lifetime licenses" from here on out. I thought i was a skeptic but this purchase seems quite naive.
