Re: Will there be more updates to TI9 Home?

    Nice detective work!

Looks like you may have reported this breaking news a bit before Santa is ready to open the doors to those of us waiting patiently;) to test the new wares.

I found that, at least here in the eastern US, the link isn't yet active.

Going thru My account/Available Updates for My Registered Products,

no new build shows up, and going thru your link, leads to...

    (snipped by c_nc)...trueimage9.0.3854_s_en.exe

    But only this message appears:

While I looked for another active link, or any further news, the Acronis Updates page changed - in the first screen shot (upper), about an hour ago, Build 3677 still shows up, while within minutes, the new build 3854 appeared in its place (lower). Ah, the things we do for entertainment.

I also noted that Build 3854 is the same build number as that released on 12/04 ATI 9.1 Server for Linux - 3854. Wonder if there's a connection?

Perhaps Acronis support will be posting with more (any?) details on what's included in these "GUI fixes" we'll soon be munching on.
Though I wouldn't count on that.

Hope this "final" build works -- all you Beta testers better have done your jobs...

( I can almost hear them saying, 'Just you wait, Henry Higgins, just you wait...')

    Regards,

Well, it's all very strange, clicking on the link given above brings me to a page that looks a bit like an FTP page.

Clicking on myupdate, there is only one build of TI9 listed, but no build number! :'(

    Time to experiment perhaps?? :D

As has been discussed, the update link above does not work and it does not appear under your products update page.

This said, if you click on your registered products link and download the 'latest' full version (this link but you need to be logged in: https://www.acronis.com/my/download/?trueimage9.0_s_en.exe )

When you check the properties of this 'genericly' named file you will see 9.0.0.3854

I have not installed it yet.

    Thank you for the link!

Can anyone tell me if I need to install the updates I missed before installing this latest one?

I haven't even installed version 9 because after I bought it I saw so many people having problems. It's time to try it. ;)

Technically, Acronis has no update software as we normally think of such programs. The so called updates are really the entire program by themselves. Just make sure that you keep a copy of previous serial numbers. If you have upgraded from a previous version, then the software will ask you for the current then previous software serial numbers. Answer: No, you don't need to install previous updates.

Thank you! I have the serial numbers in one text file to make it easier than opening the emails that were sent.

I should have added that the best way to install your new build is to uninstall the previous build of software. Some people have had problems using one build to update another depending on which particular build you are using (some work some don't). Better to be safe and avoid problems by doing a clean install.

    Hello Aleksandr,

I note that the "Changes:" for this build merely states "GUI fixes". Is that really all that has been changed in this final build o_O

It would really help your customers if you could advise which of the following known generic, hardware-independent, anomalies have, in fact, been rectified:

<Does Acronis take account of deleted folders in differential backups?>
    <TI 9.0 Build 3666 Direct to DVD Imaging - Still Some Problems>
<Boot Mode Files & Folders Restore: PDF file corrupt and unreadable>
<Bug Report - Bootable Rescue DVD Selection Screen>
    <Am I missing something>
<Build 3567 - Unnecessary Verification?> (sorry - missed this one the first time around :p)

    Regards

    smiley2,

You have the German version of ATI 9.0 Home, right? Build 3584 is available in English, at least for now.

So, basically, the official word from Acronis (based on the always thorough change log) is that the only thing they've done in this release, is fix some cosmetic GUI issues....? Why bother at all, is my immediate reaction.

Re: Will there be more updates to TI9 Home?

The reason many people including me were asking for an update to TI 9.0 was to fix the problems that Menorcaman has so eloquently elaborated in the above post. Anonymous "GUI fixes" were not among the reasons listed. I eagerly await the Acronis official response. If they didn't fix the above problems, then Acronis has betrayed what little trust they still have left (besides wasting our time in this forum).

I've noticed at least one change so far. If you choose to use manual settings for a task or backup job and then check under additional settings, you will see a new option to "Ignore all read errors that occur during backup operation."

This option does not appear to be documented in the help file.

Although if you look at the the way Acronis have recorded their version history in the past, all they seem to say is

    GUI fixes
    Better hardware support

One way of interpreting an "Acronis Version History" of "GUI Fixes" is that they have not improved the hardware support in this version.;)

Joking aside, there may even be some truth to this as I think all the faults were generic and not hardware specific.

Well Acronis, since you should already know the answer to the questions being posed here, at least you could give us a timely response. We eagerly await your answers about how you solved the fundamental problems of True Image 9.0 home (Hint: they wern't "GUI fixes"! Another hint is that it is not acceptable to use sleight of hand in announcing new builds. By sleight of hand, I mean changing things in a new build that either irrelevant or not germane to the essential reason why a new build was called for in this instance. If you haven't already forgotten I will remind you: the reason the community on this forum asked for a new build was to correct two things (1) certain fundamental problems that menorcaman had stated did not work properly in the previous build and (2) the same problems you Acronis had advertised as new features in the previous build. You may not see any problems in releasing software that does not work as advertised but others could definitely see that as fraud since you seem to have a history of advertising claims that don't hold up. The final build of TI 9.0 was an opportunity for you to correct that impression. If build 3854 was merely to correct (GUI fixes) then I must presume that you intend another build for TI 9.0 that will really be a final build to fix those problems. Otherwise, the only other logical explanation is that you intended to deceive the customers of Acronis in believing that you intended to make good on your advertising claims. There is a word for that, but since you haven't bothered to explain your position yet I will give you a sliver of doubt about your intentions. Only a small amount and only for a limited period of time. Your customers hope and want for you to succeed as a legitimate and honest software manufacturer.

Like others I am disappointed that Acronis hasn't released information about which problems have been addressed in this build.
I don't have an issue with a software vendor attempting to fix a problem but not quite getting it right. Sure I'd prefer the problem was 100% fixed but that doesn't always happen even with the most rigorous testing and QA procedures. I'd just like to know that something was being done about a specific problem.

I eagerly await results of testing by those users who are concerned about the specific problems highlighted by Menorcaman.
I had hoped that Menorcaman and other users who have previously reported their findings about these problems had been approached and asked if they might be interested in being beta testers for this build.
I even sent a Private Message to Acronis suggesting this idea.
Unfortunately I did not get a reply so perhaps it did not get to the decison makers.
Looks like a good public relations exercise was missed.

Anyway, it's now over to the testers.

"GUI fixes". Do they think we're stupid or something? I mean, do they really think "GUI fixes" is in any way shape or form a useful description of what's been fixed? I find it hard not to view their behaviour as arrogance, pure and simple.

Ah yes, those "testers" who thought they'd bought a fully tested and working product.

Maybe this latest update solves all known problems, and it would be great if it does, but come on Acronis, be a bit more communicative with your users. Try to remember that we're the ones who are ultimately paying your bills.

    Graham.

german version: Ok, thanks. That's it.
Would be no problem to use an english version, but they don't want to give this to me :(
The link above does not work for me.
And even if this would work, who knows if the key is valid for this language?

Re: Will there be more updates to TI9 Home?

I can understand that they don't want to give you this English build.
Since you have a German TI9 they don't want to give you two copies of TI9.
Have you asked when the German version of this build will be available?
If they don't intend releasing a German build then have you asked if they will swap your German TI9 for an English TI9?
