Best Registry cleaner

I used to rely on the registry option in CC Cleaner but i read somewhere that its better to use a software designed for the registry. and not a general purpose one.
any advice?

RegVac from www.superwin.com. Very effective, with Undo feature which I have never needed, and all updates free. I run this overnight every day with a scheduler.

 

It seems like everyone has a different opinion. I did try advanced windowscare 2, and it worked well. It has a spyware scan, security scan, registry scan, and system optimization scan. However, it was to comprehensive and thorough, and I panicked and went back to Ccleaner. Easycleaner is another program I liked. They are all free and good, and I think that some of these programs that find 2.4 million problems in your registry are either too aggressive or dealing in scare tactics.

 

In my opinion, the best registry cleaner is Registry Mechanic 6... its a purebred registry cleaner...very thorough scanning deep down the registry, and even if it does that... it is still safe and will not touch those things that make the systems problematic like others.

 

heard a lot about Registry Mechanic. I tried EasyCleaner but it found very few things-did a scan using CCcleaner after that and it came up with a lot more issues.
its still a question of which one though....

 

if CCleaner works well for you, than stay with it. u dont gain much by switching.

 

IMO, ALL automated registry cleaners are a double edged sword. While they can and do remove left over keys, values, etc., they can also mess things up. Sometimes in a major way!

In general, my advice is to not use such tools. If you feel strongly that you must use one, go for an auto cleaner that make it's own backups. Absolutely stay away from those that rely on the System Restore function as their backup (System Restore points are ALL over written at some point along with the fact that System Restore files can be corrupted and not function (and this always happens at the wrong time!))

I do clean up my registry. But I do mine manually. I use the last free version of jv16 Power Tools (can be found over at oldversion.com) and free Registrar Lite (from majorgeeks.com) I use the search functions in these 2 products and research the listings I come up with before deleting anything. Once I went to this approach, I've had no problems. I can't say the same thing about auto cleaners...

I noted CCleaner's registry cleaner being mentioned. Since it can be controlled (it shows you everything it doesn't like and you can decide what you want deleted) and it makes it's own backups, it would be one choice to give consideration to. As to whether it is making "good" decisions on what it says is unneeded, that I can't say.

everyone have their choice n no clear winner! i find ccleaner quite easy n lite.
But its about finding the number one reg cleaner. it was pretty easy when i was tryin out AV-all roads lead to Nod32. I love it now.
i was hoping to get someth like that with the reg cleaner....

Different registry cleaners will "all" find different issues. The "Most Important" feature to look for in a reg cleaner is Back-Up what is being changed / deleted. Secondary is "Ignore" function. And to be able to reverse this should you want to be able to include a key at a later date. I've tried alot of reg cleaners and they all have positives & negatives. I've settled on:

Registrar Registry Manager (lite) to do complete B-U prior to cleaning.
JV-16 2006: to clean
Tune-Up Utilities: to clean
RegCure: to clean. This app takes a while to set up since it's Very Aggressive and can put you out-of-business, so be forewarned

ERUNT: Installed, but "always crashes" when I try to restore registry.

ive tried tuneup utilities in teh past and while the registry cleaner is good, i dont really like having the entire suite.

Looks like a scam to me, both seems to be the same program maybe registered under different domains. If you paid for that crap try to contact your credit card company or ParetoLogic to see if the money can be refunded.

 

They're both the same app, correct. I don't see why you call them a scam or crap? I've used it for a while and it's excellent as long as you respect its strength and pay attention to the changes / deletions it proposes.

It wiped out some Windows / Office values. I couldn't get updates. I contacted RegCure and was advised as to which keys/values to restore (put on ignore) and all was well.

@WSFuser: yeah, there's alot in that suite. Some I use, some I don't. I just discovered the "styles" section. I was looking for something to change the color of my taskbar but didn't want to go for WindowBlinds or any full-blown app just to change the scheme of things. TU2006 allowed me to do this

I understand the process of software clones, but I fail to see how I've been duped? I purchased this app from RegCure.com. I've been in contact w/ support and have been satisfied w/ the results. The app does what its designed to do.

Still not convinced eh? ParetoLogic was a spyware distributor in the past, ok let's forget that but why RegCure GUI looks like a lot of there crappy registry cleaning software ? You’ve been duped because is RegCure is just very poor quality software, take a look at those screenshots, do you notice what all this programs has in common?

A very colored interface, crappy but very attractive ''pro'' names like ''PC OptimizerPro'' and a very high price for some of them, the guys behind all this crappy registry software are just copying each other, maybe for a untrained eye they are ok but I'll bet 100000$ that what we see above is just pure crap. I try about 60 pieces of software per week, right now because it's weekend i don't have the time to try and i don't want to install all the stuff from above but when i will have it i will do it and with detailed results if you are so hard to convince maybe someone else can explain better (also I'm not so good at english grammar).
