I’m currently reviewing all my security apps and I’ve currently considering using the following setup:

    NOD32 (Paid)
    Avira Antivir (Free) On Demand

    Comodo Firewall

    Ewido (Paid)
    Super Antispyware (Free)
    A2 (free)
    Spywareblaster

I have a full Process Guard licence, should I continue to use it or look for an alternative HIPS? If so which one? I think I need something simple like PG because I’m not really a geek that understands all the hidden processes and the registry stuff.

Other than the HIPS would you say I need anything else?

With any of the recommendations I don’t mind if the apps are free or paid, I just want something that’s lightweight and works :D

    Cheers all for your advice.

That is a decision that you need to make based on what you feel. I loved PG and put my faith in it for a long time. Due to what appeared to me to be a loss of support and interest on the developers part I dropped it. I have gone to SSM . There is a lot of development and constant improvement with SSM. I don't think either has stopped anything bad from happening but I feel better knowing that it is there.

    I would keep it (MHO).
There've been a bunch-o threads of late espousing the superior protection of SSM, Prosecurity, and their supremacy over PG.
It's not that PG has gotten WORSE, rather, other vendors have developed more comprehensive HIPS.
Is PG the "best" HIPS? Maybe not. Is it sufficient for most? I believe so.
There's the rub. I personally have tried SSM, but found it a bit too "involved" for my liking. I prefer the relative simplicity of PG.
Security is an unfortunate necessity. I learn, and sometimes "play / tweak" with various security app proggies as necessity (or sometimes curiosity) dictates.
I DO NOT, however, want to make a hobby of it.
(I have a multitude of apps that put $ in my pocket. None are security apps.)

    Cheers

Yeah I kind of realise now that I would have to test each alternative out.

The simplicity issue somthing that makes it difficult in finding the right balance.
Maybe I should stick with PG and suppliment it with a sandbox application like sandboxie or DefenceWall.

I used to wouldn't be without it, but as other software got more sophisticated PG started to show compatability issues so I dropped it and haven't missed it since. There are more up to date programs out there that can give you the protection without the problems. Wilders forum is full of threads on the subject.

    I agree.
Which is not to say don't test drive other HIPS. Check them out. Kick the tires and see if they suit your needs/comfort level.
Keeping in mind, most HIPS offer "after the fact" last line of defense protection (i.e.: something malicious already got in your system).
With sandboxing (I use SandboxIE) you can (in theory) surf with impunity.

After trawling through wilders are these the main HIPS I should be looking at?

    SSM
    Cyberhawk
    Prosecurity
    Online Armour

Any major one that I missed??

If you like PG then keep using it imo. You may as well use what you paid for.

u can also add neoava guard (currently beta) and safe 'n' sec to the list.

theres also ghost security suite, but its been in beta for a while and its forum seems empty.

btw cyberhawk is a behavior blocker more than HIPS.

as per your original question, i think u should stick with PG. its simple and still a good HIPS.
