I'm using True Image Home 9.0 - I've noticed that most of my automated incremental backups are failing now with "Failed to read from the sector ... of the hard disk 1"

According to the logs it doesn't usually fail on the same sector, and sometime it doesn't fail at all. Could this be because I'm trying to backup my C: partition and there's processes accessing the disk? I run the the backup at 4:00 AM on Mondays.

I noticed in the log "Locking partition c:..." so I'm assuming that True Image needs a quiet disk for backup. I'm really hoping that my hard disk is not bad.

    Does anyone have any advice?

I installed TI v10 and I'm getting this same problem on not only my system drive, but 2 other slave drives (I do a differential 6 nights a week and a full on the 7th night). Sometimes the backup tasks work fine and other times I get this error with various different sector numbers. I ran CHKDSK on all three drives and they were clean. I never had this problem with 9 so this is something definitely new. Does anyone have any ideas about this problem?

If possible, try a backup from the rescue CD - if you get the same error message maybe a HD problem.

Run - chkdsk /r and see if anything is found. You'll need to reboot XP for this to run.

There are a few users now reporting various types of "read errors" when doing incrementals or data backups - me included (read errors)...

I've had no problems doing backups from the recovery CD, and CHKDSK reports no errors, but I get read errors on multiple files when doing a data backup from within Windows (and not always the same files).

I am running TI v10.0, Windows XP MCE SP2 (with the latest hotfixes) and McAfee anti-virus.

Something, IMO (and I'm tipping an MS update) has changed the way TI is working - I'm hoping Acronis will be able to reproduce the problems and release a fix ASAP - most annoying dropping out to the recovery CD to do a backup.

As a workaround, I think you'll find running a backup from the recovery CD will work.

I'm not technical enough to know where to start looking for the issues, but know I didn't have problems until the most recent MS updates (and haven't rolled them back yet either to test!)...

For reference, I have installed the following MS Updates in the last 2 weeks (before which I know TI worked without errors):

Windows XP Windows Media Player 11 (for Windows Media Center Edition 2005)
Windows XP Update Rollup for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (KB925766)
Windows XP Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - November 2006 (KB890830)
Windows XP MSXML 4.0 SP2 Security Update (KB92797:cool:
Windows XP Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB922760)
Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB924270)
Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB923980)
Windows XP Security Update for Windows XP (KB920213)
Windows XP Windows Internet Explorer 7.0 for Windows XP

Of course, McAfee could also have updated itself, but I got errors even with McAfee real-time scanning disabled.

    Any suggestions welcome...

I got the same error message when trying to restore from an image of drive C, (partition or file) with ATI 10.0 from Acronis Secure Zone. When restoring only a single file there was no risk to just click <ignore> and go on. The file was restored correctly. But what would happen restoring the partition??
In the meantime by collecting my own experiences and reading this forum, i lost confidence in version 10.0 and went back to version 9.0. I will wait at least for the next build and then try again. In contrast to the experience of kolotyluk as far as I remember, I never had this error message with v. 9.0!

I would be surprised if these updates are the problem. However, note that the updates crossed out are installed on my system and I have not problems reported.
