    I have just purchased Acronis True Image Home version 10.0 (build 4,871)
    I backed up my files and tried to create an incremental backup. Not only is the incremental backup as large as the full backup (when there were hardly any changes) but several files cannot be read.

    Error reading the file. (0x40001)
    Tag = 0x61F1883FE50B0A2F
    (0x1003EB)
    Tag = 0x14181C22EF45AC00: Retry/Ignore/Cancel
    Any thoughts?

    Are you running a background defragger like Diskeeper or Perfect Disk?
    If you are, since the drive is constantly changing, the incremental backups could be as large as the original full backup.

    I am running Diskeeper 10. Thanks for the tip. I'll disable and retry.

    I'm encountering the same error message when trying to create a differential backup. I've created an image without problems.

    Has anyone else seen this error?

    No, no but if I did the first thing I would do is run chkdsk X: /r substitute the letter of the partition for X.

    Run this on the partition(s) being imaged and the partition the archive is located in.

    Have you validated the base image you are adding the differential to?

    There is no base image yet ... I'm trying to create a differential using TI 10's backup location ... it should create the base image for me.

    The I can try the disk check, but the odd thing is that if I run the backup multiple times in a row it errors on different files each time.

    I also have recently found the "Error reading the file. (0x40001)" error when trying to create a full data backup of the "My Documents" directory. This is always on different files - and I've run Chkdsk, etc. with no errors.

    No doubt some MS updates have been pulled down since it last worked (although the last full was over a month ago, incrementals since).

    I am running XP MCE SP2.

    I think we have a "bug" with either a recent MS update on anti-virus (I'm running McAfee for reference)... I'd appreciate help too...

    Next step is to try through a boot disk - this should negate any hard disk problems and point the finger directly at XP...

    Booting from CD and creating a "data backup" works without any errors. This points to a problem with either (1) Windows XP (a recent update I'd bet), (2) McAfee anti-virus updates (?) or (3) Acronis software itself...

    Now - for now the workaround is the best bet for me, but not ideal. Images seem to create okay under Windows and I only saw the error when creating a data backup - your mileage may vary.

    I'd say as more than one of us is seeing this hopefully someone will work out the issue and provide a fix.
