Norton 360 BETA

Anyone tried it ?

I've downloaded it and I'll install later this evening on a test machine with WinXP Pro OS, I'm very curious how this product acts.

 

The first XXXX beta testers receive 250MB online backup storage room But what i don't understand is why they do not support Vista. Realy bad!!

 

I have no interest in it, my interest in all Norton products has vanished when I used to run Norton AV on my old PC, never again!

 

From what I've read about this product it seems to be the new System works suite with a strong flavour of security for home users and less unuseless tools. About the vista; maybe they thought that the transition shall be to slow to the MS's new product and that simple users won't migrate so soon to vista.

 

Im betatesting it at this moment. This is not the new systemworks! This is a combination between NIS 07, NSW 07 and Save & Restore: Antivirus, Firewall, Backup, System Cleanup/Repair and so on.

It will be developed for Vista too.

 

Me too tested on windows xp sp2, is very good but early for take the vote

i prefer suite such kaspersky at the moment, good stable and quickly..

 

Can you post some screenshots? I'm interested in the the looks of the interface and the configuration options

 

All I could find, I have no intention of actually installing it myself.

i tried it many many months ago, in the first beta stage and it messed up my machine, maybe the beta now is stable, it had some bugs when i used it ... and certain things i didnt want it to do, was needed to be done to get the status on green.

i wont be testing it again to see if the beta has improved, but im sure it will be a good product by the time its finished, great idea from norton.

 

Perhaps, it will be suprise for us.

I'm not concerned about memory usage, I got plenty of that.
It's how much cpu it's going to eat, and I suspect it'll be quite alot.

But what do I care, I'm not going to use it anyways

 

I don't think there is a problem if the cpu is stressed from time to time, but if 360 is going to "steal" all my cpu that's not going to be funny.

 

Symantec products suck (IMHO) when they are a final release, so why would anyone want to soil their system with a Symantec BETA?

Good Lord! No wonder i find so many -ve reviews of symantec products..all over..
Personally having used this beta and norton 2006-7 range of products on my modest machine,i can only say that they have worked as well as one can design to work!

The short answer? Because sometimes they are better than most of the competition on the market.

There are a couple of nice twists here. It has been 4 years since I've installed a Norton product, so it's about time to take another look.

The installation went without incident, initial system scan is in progress at the moment. We'll see how it develops. Right now it looks to be a nice option.

Anyone have any ideas what Symantec is going to charge for Norton 360? I have a feeling it's going to be pretty expensive.

 

norton products are always expensive, but...

norton sells IS 2007 for £49.99, on ebay its less than £17, so i wouldnt worry too much for the price norton slaps on there products, because its such a popular product, loads and loads of people sell them cheaper, somewhere.

 

OK, I've installed it and run an initial system scan (basically the same scan time as KAV WKS version 6 on my machine).

At this point it looks to be an impressive product.

Working/surfing while a system scan was in progress did not present a problem. Configuration was straightforward and the informational screens and alerts are well conceived.

It will come down to long term program stability and pricing, but my early assessment is more positive than anything I've seen from Symantec in years. I'll be running it on my test partition for a while and see how it shakes out in routine usage, but right now it is clearly an application/suite I'd have no problems recommending to virtually anyone.

I used 2003 and then 2005 versions.... Makes me gun-shy to try again, and would advise against any "BETA" from Symantec for sure. But hey, if they get good reviews I may test the final product....... not going to risk it on a BETA..

By all means that should be repeated often and loudly. If you can't run it on a system that can be gone in a heartbeat without distress, you shouldn't try. Unfortunately the draw of the flame is sometimes too strong.

The package actually looks pretty good, but I'm not sure it will be everyone's cup of tea. Since it has functionality beyond simple security (i.e. disk defragmentation) I removed PerfectDisk to be safe. There is no other security applications presently installed on this particular test partition. ShadowUser Pro is installed but inactive. Aside from that, it is a pure XP Pro SP2 install.

So far it looks to be a very good option for the suite users. There isn't a lot of up front configuration obvious and none required to start. You can get to things, but they're down a layer or two, which is fine for the vast user base.

The big thing I noticed thus far is that surfing while doing a full system scan is not an exercise in frustration. It is actually similar in speed to my system at idle. No appreciable stalls noted thus far. I'll stress it a bit over the next few days....

Layout is clean and self-explanantory. Major categories are PC Security, Transaction Security, Backup & Restore, and PC Tuneup All configuration is accessible from a single main screen entry point (Tasks & Settings).

I am skeptical as well, but so far it is looking nice.
