Is AVAST really that good? I have my doubts because I learnt on this website that AVAST didn't pass several tests : Rogue site link removed....Bubba
Is still true or is this an old review based on old info ?

Hi, folks: The site in question(not the app!) has some creditbility issues very long time. Their reviews can only be diguested w/ Pepto-Bismol. On their site, Avast pro v. 4.6 is asking $, while I am currently using Avast home V.4.7. Free.Does this tell you something? Outdated, way behind the current events. And Do you still trust their reviews? Give me a big break.

 

I did what you suggested and what I understand from it is that AVIRA seems even a better FREE prog than AVAST ? Even better than Kaspersky and F-Secure ! Or did I make an error ?

 

According to the lastest tests, that would be correct. There are also other reports and tests at the bottom of the page. AV Comparatives is a reliable source of information. Of course, your selection of an antivirus program may have other considerations, besides just test scores. It's a personal choice when it comes to selecting an antivirus program. For me avast! Antivirus is really good, it has a very good detection rates along with excellent features which are designed so functionally and practically. There're many free/paid antivirus software I've tried them very often but I always get back to avast! Home Edition.

I've been using it for more than 3 years with no infections and any other problems. I also don't use any other dedicated antispyware or 3rd party firewall software, I've been using avast! Home Edition only as my whole security software.

 

If it runs well on your system Avira does have the best detection rates. It did not run well on mine, and seems to have problems with updates, icon not showing in the tray, and guard not active on start. These are not all the time or experienced by the majority of users. However, I had enough aggravation that I uninstalled it.

Of the three free I prefer Avast. However, you should try Avira, and if it does well I would use it. If not, then try others.

Avira is better then all, paid or free.

 

Avast has far more features as a free or pro offering, 3 years of using Avast and no virus detected on my system when I scan with other reputable paid AV programs. There are other good AVs as well but they are paid like KAV, Nod etc.

AntiVir icon cannot be shown on my wife's Sony Vaio TX26 laptop no matter whatever I do. Active Virus Shield (Kaspersky engine) is too slow and obtrusive for a tiny laptop such as Sony Vaio TX26, AVG Free is considered to be unreliable because its scheduled update system is drastically ineffective for roaming environment so avast! Home Edition is the way to go for my wife's Sony Vaio TX26 laptop.

 

Loving Avast. Good features, quirky idiosynchratic interface, good forum support.

 

I love avast's free edition's auto updater and multi shields

 

I don't think we should crown Antivir the best based on one test result. Kaspersky has had a great reputation over a longer time. But I think Avast will be fine if you don't have dangerous surfing. I just prefer the peace of mind of an AV like Kaspersky.

 

Has AVIRA an e-mail scanner and if "yes" does it support Firefox ?

 

I have never used it. However, I read that the Avira product does not have a pop3 scanner. If I saw correctly, it also failed the most recent VB100% test.

But every review I have read about has been good.

 

I really like Avast web shield. That´s the reason for which I recommend and install it on Joe´s PC
