single engine AV

there's a lot of talk now about multiple engine AV. Where does this leave NOD which I understand is a single engine AV?

 

It leaves NOD32 as a single engine AV that performs very well and is much lighter on resources than the multi-engine AV solutions. Many people, myself included discount multi-engine AV from our considerations as it is often resource heavy and in the cases I have tried had less configuration options than NOD32 or KAV.

NOD32 per the latest AV Comparative tests catches over 98% of viruses and malware. A good multiple engine AV may get that number upto 99%.

How much penalty in terms of extra resources and higher cost are you willing to pay for that extra 1%?

The numbers are just for illustrative purposes. Still IMHO an excellent single-engine AV like NOD32 is sufficient. If you are paranoid you can do a periodic scan with one of the online scanners for a second opinion:

kaspersky single engine gets over 99 percent in av-comparatives
multi engine av's get less than 1percent detection so why waste the resourse?
