I have Anti-Stealth technology enabled, but still get this warning when scanning on-demand. It's working in limited mode! What does that mean?
    Something wrong or faulty configuration?
Didn't have that problem with the RC.

Re: NOD32 Version 2.7 has been released

    From the NOD32 FAQ:

Message: "Anti-Stealth technology initialization failed. The Anti-Stealth technology is working in limited mode."

Reason: This message may be displayed when the NOD32 On-Demand Scanner is run under Microsoft Windows 95, 98SE or Me. Some of the anti-stealth technologies used by NOD32 are not compatible with these operating systems and NOD32 will display a warning message when run under them.
Steps to troubleshoot: None. These operating systems are not compatible with all of the anti-stealth technologies used by NOD32.

NOTE: If NOD32 is run in a virtual environment or used in conjunction with security tools designed to quarantine, sandbox or otherwise virtualize access to the operating environment then warning messages may be displayed saying the Anti-Stealth technology cannot be initialized. This is normal behavior for NOD32 when used in conjunction with these types of programs.

Thank you for pointing out, but I'm running Windows XP and like I said, didn't have this problem with Nod32 2.70.12 RC this week.

Re-installed 2.70.16, but no change, still get the same message regarding Anti-Stealth Technology.

Nobody else having the same? There must be someone knowing about this!!!

Win XP Home SP2 - Nod32 2.70.16 and nothing else involving above. Again....running the same programs as with Nod32 2.70.12 RC up till today and didn't have this message, so....I wouldn't know what's wrong apart from a different Nod32.

Re: NOD32 Version 2.7 has been released

Just a related issue similar to what Big Apple brought up.

When I run a full scan under Windows XP (normal mode, logged in with Admin rights) I have no problems. But when I did the scan in safe mode (again after logging in with Admin rights) I get the same message as Big Apple:

Anti-Stealth technology initialization failed. The Anti-Stealth technology is working in limited mode

Is this supposed to happen for scans under in XP safe mode?

:gack: NO...I just tried the a scan in safe mode with Admin rights got the same error and when I checked the scan log, I found no log had been made.

Re: NOD32 Version 2.7 has been released

Thanks Carver. Unless somebody tells me differently sounds like a bug in 2.7 to me.

I have read in many places that an AV has a better chance of detecting a rootkit if the scan is run while Windows is in safe mode (less processes running, etc.). And the main purpose of the new Anti-Stealth feature is to detect rootkits. The whole effectiveness of the Anti-Stealth is limited if it cannot even initalize in safe mode (assuming Admin rights login).

Re: NOD32 Version 2.7 has been released

So does that mean with 2.7 it is better to run scans under normal Windows XP mode (because the Anti-Stealth works fully) rather then safe mode? If so that is odd.

I would like an official ESET representative to address this issue because this has completely thrown me for a loop.

Re: NOD32 Version 2.7 has been released

I can only offer the response of an official reseller for the moment until you get another -
In the past there may have been an improved chance of detecting rootkit type threats by scanning in safe mode but as of v2.7 this is no longer the case due to the inclusion of anti-stealth technology - but feel free to scan in safe mode as you may have previously, I'm just not sure now that it will achieve anything extra.

    Cheers :)

I post this problem because of acting up in the normal Windows XP mode and here the Anti-Stealth technology DOES NOT WORK FULLY, but did work fully in the RC and that's what bugs me!

Re: NOD32 Version 2.7 has been released

It an odd problem Apple. I personaly uninstalled the RC before installing the final. I am now running my first full scan. Anti Stealth reports itself running and fully enabled. Prehaps a reinstalation(I think you already tried this) with a registry cleaning before re-instalation. But it should report itself as enabled, not limited. Good luck let us know what happens.

P.S. I Love the new NOD32 and use it on all my rigs. The best AV in the world.

    Thanks eset.

Re: NOD32 Version 2.7 has been released

Appreciate your input for sure :)

If what you are saying is correct I guess I'll stick to doing scans in normal XP mode.

Still I would appreciate one of the ESET guys (Marcos or Agoretsky) or maybe even Blackspear to explain why this is the case.

I just find it weird that it was not specially mentioned in 2.7 FAQ.

Let's hope we get more respons from one of the Eset guys indeed. I'll do a scan in Safe-Mode and see what happens here.

    Same problem here:

Anti-Stealth technology initialization failed. The Anti-Stealth technology is working in limited mode

Thinking there may be a conflict I disabled BOClean and SystemSafetyMonitor but still have the same problem.

    Make sure that:
    - you are logged in with administrator privileges
    - you are not running in safe mode

Thanks Marcos, I was administrator and not in safe mode.
However all is well, I completely reinstalled NOD32 and Anti-Stealth technology is enabled.

Is there any need to get the Anti-Stealth Technology fully initialized when you do work as a normal User?

I am normaly logged in as User not as Admin and i wondered wheather this might be any bad in regard to the Anti-Stealth Technology?
