Dr.Web Spider Mail

It's normal the memory usage for the Spider Mail ? Some tweaks to minimize the thing ?

 

Looks normal to me, mine ran at 13,480 kb and did not impact system performance whatsoever.

 

This is normal memory usage for SpIDer Mail and this is the "heaviest" of the Dr Web modules in real-time.

I have very rarely used SpIDer Mail and have nearly always carried out a custom install when installing Dr Web, so choosing to miss out this component. I just use common sense and rely on SpIDerGuard/on-demand scanner when checking emails

A lot of ISPs now scan all incoming and outgoing mail on their Servers, so you just need to read in plain text, don't use the preview pane, download attachments to disk and scan with Dr Web's on-demand scanner.

So, IMO, if you have an old computer and are worried about memory usage, just uninstall SpiDer Mail; this is the best tweak to minimize its memory usage

Then just use safe hex and you will not need SpIDer Mail.

 

Couldn't you uninstall Spider Mail and check the option in Spider Guard to scan e-mail files? Would this tell Spider Guard to scan all e-mail files written to disk?

 

Change "Preload engines" to 0 and/or shorten "Unused engine unload timeout"
If engine is not loaded, memory usage is several megabytes.
It takes a little while to start receiving mail, however.

I have been trialling Dr Web Anti Virus, but Spider Mail refuses to send mail.

I can receive mail ok, but when sending, Spider Mail scans it, but it never gets sent!

Im useing Outlook Express, and Im connected with a Router, but get no problems with any other Anti Virus. Can anyone shed any light on this?

 

he/she is talking about editing the drweb32.ini file inside the drweb directory.

Thanks Blackcat. I disabled the SpiderMail and now everything runs smother, i begin to believe that Dr.Web is even better than NOD32 and trust me i know what i'm talking about because I'm a ''high risk surfer''. Thanks everyone for the advices.
