Snap Deploy licensing

At present, we have a large number of laptops that we issue to our military crewmembers at the beginning of their classes. The laptops contain the students' continually changing flight references and courseware. Once a class has ended, we nuke the turned-in laptops and restore them back to their initial configuration with updated training data via a carefully maintained baseline image. We've been using Ghost but it has plagued us with continual DVD write problems causing much lost time. In this respect, we've been looking at using Snap Deploy to handle our disk imaging needs. We understand that we need 30 licenses if we intend to clone 30 systems but what happens to the license if one of our stations crash and is replaced by warranty work? For us, this happens from time to time. Do we simply "lose" the license since the system with the old MAC address is no longer available? If not, how do I reset the license? If so, is this deficiency going to be fixed in the next release. Thanks.

You won't be able to reinstate the license, but I believe that if you provide Acronis support with proof of your warranty claim, they will issue you with another license.

 

we just made the same comment to sales and engineering while they were webexing snap deploy to us...quite an annoyance that i need to relay on Acronis support every time a machine crashes and is replaced by warranty.

 

I am just catching up on this thread...and I imagine by now you have both arrived upon a solution, but still I am curious to know, how is it that the MAC address of the NIC would change simply because the system crashed? I mean, unless you replaced the motherboard, or PCI device, or whatever the case may be with regard to the physical NIC, would the MAC address not always be the same considering it is bound to the NIC?
It has been my experience when reimaging previously imaged systems Snap Deploy does not consume an additional license simply because the license is bound to the MAC address of the target system.
