I got updated with one manual extra try ,but I'm more curious why it was
so large . There's not enough signatures there to make this large of a
    download .

This is a major "base update" and is being rolled out to all servers, so give it a little while until all update servers have it and then everyone will receive it.

    Cheers :D

Using the 2.7 RC, and I got frustrated waiting more than half the day - so I just did a manual update.

I am also using NOD32 2.7 RC, I have no problem updating.

It went through first thing in the morning via automatic update.

you have GOT to be joking! Compared to most other AV solutions - and ESPECIALLY the NAV and other mainstreams, who update when the tide turns against the mermaids 2nd child's first, third, 9th and 12th birthdays - their updates are frequent and bountiful.... you need to get over it!

I just clicked on the manual update from the NOD interface and eventually got to a server that had it. But it's disappointing that there are still problems.

What folks are referring to is clicking the "update now" button in the control center. If you're referring to downloading the updates for offline update, this isn't available - unless you have a multiple machine license - and then you can run the local mirror version or lan update version of NOD32. That version, sometimes (because Eset formally called it) the "admin version", creates a folder on your local machine of the update files which you can copy to a CD, DVD, USB Flash drive or other removable devices, as well as allowing you to have your local LAN machines update from it. If you have an office with a number of machines, like 5+, it can be a good idea for you to have one machine grab updates, and for your other machines to get their updates from your mirror.

Yeah I have a paid version (happily renewed in October for my second year). I'm not sweating it. It was a big update, but at the time I didn't realize how it was this big so I was a bit puzzled ;)

To be honest all the extra servers recently ESET has added has made a big difference. This was just an issue of the major update taking time to become available on all the different servers (like Blackspear was saying).

I know another way to solve the problem for most folks - go to a daily update, or even every 2, or 4 hours - then the update server load will drop to almost nothing, all servers will have the updates when most folks poll them, and failures to connect will go away - the flipside being you're not protected with the latest defs as quickly... which do you prefer.. a couple skips on hourly, or a much less frequent check for updates?

The other thing I'd do, would be log successful connects and updates without problem, then you'd see how small a percentage of connections are problematic - it's VERY SMALL - of course, no-one appreciates that, as Eset only logs the time an update occurs, and when a failure occurs - uneventful connections aren't logged at all.

Seriously, with the new update servers, the only time you're going to notice something like this now, is when the updates in multi-megabyte like yesterday. Those don't happen very often, so I reckon people need to put it into perspective.

To be honest & fair, I have not faced any serious problem updating the version of signatures since I started using NOD32 in May this year (I bought a three year license then).

By the way, the latest version of signatures is 1861 (20061110).

Could you please post the information on installed NOD32 from your Control Center here? I suspect that you are not using a full version which updates fine.

yea I have had issues all week with updates & I frankly have lost confidence in Nod32, this weekend I will be looking for a fresh security setup. This is disappointing...

I'm repeating it again - there has been a temporary server overload observed yesterday that lasted for about 3-4 hours since the last large update was issued. Imagine several million of users downloading a 5 MB update at a time, it was a baptims of fire for the new servers. If you had a problem updating NOD32 during the rest of the week, then it must have been on your part as the update servers have been running flawlessly.

I understand what your saying but the servers obviously they didn't pass the test. I don't need to keep an eye on if my AV has updated or not & go the website see if ones available & than manually update it. If this were a free AV fine I think you would be right. Also should mention that this isn't the first time as the servers were changed. My old adage is 1st time shame on you second time shame on me. My subscription expires 2/07, I'll expire it today...

    guilijan,

If you're still following this thread you can get the alert emails by subscribing here;https://secure.eset.co.uk/forms/threatalerts.asp

Given the frequency of updates, you will probably have to do what I do and clear a month or two of the emails every now and then!
