Bitdefender or Kaspersky? What's Best?

Hey there Fellas,
New here to wildsecurity, and it's a kick ass site glad i found it.

I'm here basically because i got infected with a trojan .bot.era or something like that.... and PCCillin couldn't get rid of it.

So i downloaded Kaspersky and it detected it and more on my machine and deleted it.
But Kaspersky slowed my web browsing , missing images on webpages n ****.

Did some research and everywhere i went, Bitdefender was rated #1, then Kaspersky #2.
Bitdefender found things Kaspersky missed, and it didn't slow my web browsing at all.
So basically, which AV program do you guys think is best?
Nod32 is another one I've read that people in here like, but i've been everywhere , and it's never been rated 1, or 2 like Bitdefender 10 & Kaspersky 6 AV.
By the way, Kaspersky did hang my machine after install and i had to hit reset button.... which i've read on the net is a bug inherit in that program.

Any help would be appreciated... no more pccillin !!! What do you guys like?

i prefer KAV. it has a nice interface, excellent detection rates, and its light.

if u think it slows down your web browsing, try stopping the web av or set it to low. it doesnt slow down my web surfing, but KAV reacts differently on each computer.

one last thing: AV rankings and such shouldnt be your only deciding factor for an AV (and remember that any test can have flaws). just use an AV that you like and that works on your computer.

 

Just to get one thing straight, there is no "best." I wish threads would stop asking for one. All you'll get is a biased opinion which, if you're lucky, can be backed up by biased and unimportant numbers. "Best" is relative. That being said, I too prefer KAV. But that does not mean that it is the "best." Try both and see which one works "best" for you.

 

I personally prefer KIS seems better than BD 10 to me, also the problems you described have mostly been resolved in the beta versions, some of the older beta's seem to work better than some of the newer beta's and visa versa. I guess that is inherent with all beta's, either way Im sure when it goes gold sometime soon all or most of the remaining bugs will be fixed.

One last thing is Kaspersky is supposed to get a new Hueristic engine sometime in Dec. or Jan. from what i read here.

Not really sure what testing sites you accessed for your information but one of the most respected testing sites would be AV-comparatives. Please find the link below.

If you want a simple and efficient AV than go for nod32.It is very easy to use and has very good performance.

Between bitdefender and kaspersky,kaspersky is better,but both have few bugs here and there..

So,nod32 should be good for you.

 

GraveFiller,you state that you read Bitdefender as #1 and Kaspersky as #2 so why not use both at the same time? Well to put it simply..BitDefender has a greater scanning technique than Kaspersky, the reason for me saying this is that I just changed ftoday from Kaspersky to BitDefender v10 Standard Edition the proof is in the pudding with the results I posted here, Kaspersky didnt scan as many files, nor did it find this virus either. Bear in mind this is the total of files scanned with only a few of my regular programs missing, as I havent reinstalled then after a reformat:

I'm thinking it may scan over 1 Million files after I have reinstalled everything.

 

In my humble opinion, when it comes to overall detections, wording "the best" still shouldn't be used with BitDefender, I think it still cannot be compared to the brutal scanner such as Kaspersky. Of course, every AV (even AVG, eTrust, Trend Micro, etc.) can find some malware that Kaspersky misses.

 

KAV is clearly better for me. It scans much faster after the first scan, has a higher on-demand detection rate according to AV Comparatives, and has fewer conflicts with other security applications. If it does not run well on your machine go with BD or NOD or some other.

I used BD for well over a year, and at some point in the updates it caused BSOD. The BD support folks wanted me to remove essentially all other security. I removed BD. After I trialed NOD and KAV I would not return to BD. I settled on KAV 6 for my main computer.

On one computer I am using F-Secure AV, and I also like it much better than BD.

Try several and choose the one which suits you best. If Avira runs well it is one of the best.

I use BD since 9.0. Is good AV. Support is very good. BD 10.0 has some bugs but that folks are solving all problems. I think next rel. will be better and more stable. I suffered a couple of BSOD. Support guys tell me to remove other Antispy Sw. But ZA Pro (with antispy) works fine with BD. So I think is a good Suite.

Every scanner counts the number of files differently, i can assure of two things.............1. Kaspersky scans just as well and probably even deeper 2. I can with 100% certainty find files that Kaspersky detects that BD doesn't and vice versa, that in itself proves nothing.

 

Even if I already told that I really like BitDefender, I must admit that Kaspersky Internet Security 2006 is much better than the first one. It is more stable than BitDefender.

 

will say it again and again. Having been a beta tester for Bit, Kas wins, hands down.

 

I beta tested both of these as well, and ended up buying KIS,
IMHO Bitdefender has stability problems during auto updates
and reboots, resulting in BSOD's, also does not seem to play
nice with other security software, KIS 6.0 on the other hand
does need some handholding with PD and AIC enabled but I
ended up going with KIS as it was far more stable on my
system, offered excellent support, frequent updates etc,
and between these two, I felt KIS was the better program.

out of the 2, i would say KIS

i think if you want the 'best protection', in my opinion f-secure IS 2007

if you care about the speed of your machine, such as boot times etc, avg suite as you never notice its there.

if you want one that uses v.little ram, go for BD IS 10

maybe you care about scan speed? nod32 or panda

but i have to agree with the first REPLY, none are 'the best' , as everyone has different opinions about different softwares.

personal preference, instead of asking us to choose for you.... get the trials and DO IT YOURSELF.

 

Your best bet is to try some antivirus programs and see what runs better on your machine.
Kaspersky and Avira AntiVir are the two that I would start with.
One at a time of course.

The "best" ? The answer to that all depends on who you ask and the criteria used to determine what is the "best".

 

Well, when anyone says best in their post, they want to know what is good quality stuff is all.... like saying Jacklyn Smith is hotter then Raquel Welch...****, i'd take either in a heartbeat right?

I heard nod32 is for the very very experienced techie...which i am...but i don't need to always play with my av prog..i want to install it, then some proactive settings to prevent the poison malware , and leave it be..i heard this is very very more intensive in it's setup.....will give her a go thanks man!

 

dude, you can't use 2 av programs at same time... their will be major conflicts....and that's if the 2nd program you try to install will even let you... it will probably say your running an av program you must uninstall first...

No need to shout man, was just asking you tech geeks for your opinion...perhaps i was mistated in my tagline... but i've allready downloaded and tried them... and I like Kaspersky but the **** slows up my browsing, so screw kaspersky...

And i hear nod32 is good, but a bear to setup.
