Operating Memory: Leave Only Option?

Hi,

As I have stated before I have nod32 set up in Vista RC2 (have replicated same in XP SP2) and even using safe mode if it finds a trojan in operating memory it only gives the option to leave it.

Now I know I can just copy paste the location in the search bar and manually delete it but it seems odd and it must do this as leave is the only option provided in set up.

Please tell me this has been adressed in 2.7 or 3.0. Others like Kaspersky, Avast delete the file as well when found.

Hi Kryspy,

When a threat is detected in memory, run a full system scan and clean (the best one is documented post #70 onwards here) and NOD32 should be able to easily deal with anything that way.

2.7 should be compatiable with all current releases of Vista (or Vista in general), the one you are using now is not 100% compatiable so that might be the issue here.

I have replicated the same problem in XP SP2.

NOD32 User,

I have my nod32 set up excatly as per Blackspears instructions but have never launched a scan/clean from the scheduler so maybe that is the problem. Next time I will try it that way.

P.S. Is there any reason nod32 has to be this difficult. I am not a novice PC user so I can only imagine the learning curve for someone new. Something for ESET to think abut.

 

NOD32 tells you to click the Leave button and, when a threat is found on the disk, choose to delete it. The next time you start Windows it will no longer be active in memory.

So what you are saying that to press "Leave" and when I reboot it will be gone?

If true, maybe "Leave" should be renamed to something that instills a bit more confidence that it will be removed.

Don't get me wrong I love the product despite my complaints in this forum and will most likely be renewing on November 9th.

These are 2 entirely different things. NOD will delete the file that is responsible for the program that is in memory when it gets to it on the hard drive.

Maybe I am a bit thick but I am missing the point here. When I choose "Leave" is the file removed or not becasue I get the impression that it isn't.

If you choose Leave, NOD32 will carry on checking the disk. If it finds the file responsible for the infection, it will delete it the next time Windows starts so that it will no longer get loaded to memory.

 

When you choose 'leave' you are choosing to leave the program running in memory, not the actual file itself. Once NOD gets to the file on the hard disk it will then delete it.

Now I got it, I thought I was choosing to leave the file and I am thinking "God this is stupid"

As long as it gets rid of the culprit in the end I don't care.

This is gonna be my third renewal of nod32 so I am a believer.

Yes, this is VERY confusing, it should be renamed to "Leave - upon next reboot the file will be deleted".

Whew! I thought I was seeing things when I first ran across "Leave" (with no other buttons like Delete enabled!).

Thought for sure I had found an obvious bug in the program!
