I have just restored an image to my workstation - and I am now presented with the message "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Please try again later..."

    Suggestions anyone?

Yes, the PC account in active directory is still there. Yes I can login to the machine with local system accounts, but no domain accounts at all.

Quit the domain and rejoining is not an option, as all the domain user settings will be lost.

We had this issue and thought we'd share how we solved it.

Much searching pointed us towards "nltest" and "netdom" Windows Support Tools commands to repair the broken secure channel, however they were not completing successfully.

We did not just want to remove and rejoin the machine from the PDC as it would have potentially caused all the profiles on the machine to have to be re done.

So, what we did was, on the workstation or member server:
    - Login to the local machine
    - Join the machine to a Workgroup of the same name as the domain
    - Reboot
    - Join the machine to the domain again
    - Reboot

    Good luck!
