    this is the problem:
in every notebook the cd-rom drive it is seen from the system like external unit.
this is in conflict on system reboot from TI9. the system does not set off.

    swan_x states:

Can I have confirmation from others in this forum that swan_x is correct in regards to an inherent inability of creating bootable rescue media in my usb flash drive to restore a TI9 image from an external hard drive if my computer is a LAPTOP?

If this is so, does anybody know of a 3rd party prog which would enable me to get around this limitation?

And, could Acronis please try to fix this problem in future builds?

    Thank you.

my method for a IBM T42:
    • Get the SYSlinux package (syslinux.zytor.com - it is a set of small bootloaders, even for net- and cd-boot).
    • Format your USB-Stick with FAT16 (FAT in Windows-Format-Dialogue).
    • Then use "syslinux.exe X:" (where X: is your USB-Stick).
All of the following files have to be in the root-directory of the USB-Stick, not in a subfolder!
    • Next you need to create a config for the bootloader, namely SYSLINUX.CFG.
    This goes into SYLINUX.CFG:
    Code:
    timeout 100
    default ti9
    label ti9
      kernel kernel.dat
      append initrd=ramdisk.dat vga=788 ramdisk_size=32768 quiet

Additional boot options (for those who can guess, or know, what they do - since i dont want to explain them in detail):
nodma nousb nousb2 nofw nopcmcia noraid nomouse

Files to copy to the USB-Stick:
    • kernel.dat
    • ramdisk.dat
As you see, you need 2 files from the TI9 Installation folder, ramdisk.dat and kernel.dat, just copy them to the USB-Stick.

A quick check-up, what you should see on your USB-Stick now:
    • kernel.dat
    • ramdisk.dat
    • SYSLINUX.CFG
      hidden file:
    • ldlinux.sys

After you checked, that all the files are in place, reboot and get your PC/Laptop to boot from the stick, it will not have a colorful menu like Acronis own loader, but you dont need to care about it, since the above config will boot into TI after 10 seconds.

    Maybe i should write a AutoIt-Script.

    A solution! Thanks, b_k.

I wish I wasn't so clueless about DOS & Linux. I'll read through that website's FAQ page on SYSLINUX and try to make that work. Any more basic details you could provide for the DOS/Linux-challenged would be truly appreciated.

EDIT: Thank you, b_k, for elaborating. I'll go try it out.

Here is my experience with this matter:

My USB stick does work with various PC in the IBM product line, but with one specific generation of Portable pcs it does not work.
The naming schems at IBM for the portable PC is : ThinkPad Rxx, where xx is a growing number as new PCs are released.

The USB boot is not capable in the machines before the R40 model.
    It is supported since then.

Acronis bootable USB stick works with the R40 :) , does not work with de R50,R51 and R52 :'( , and works again with the R60 model :D .
My bootable USB stick has been made with an R51
    )

    Still looking for a solution.

    Hi Twixbie

if you have not already done so, try another USB stick. I have varying results with different machines with different USB sticks.

Yes, I know that already. We used different USB sticks. With the same results.
I even had a 2 Gb stick that did not work with the machines that did with my 128 Mb.
I am still experimenting other sticks.
    Thank anyway :thumb:
