Although the main panel shows that automatic updates are supposed to be active, twice today I have had to carry this out manually.

Has anyone found the solution to this please or is it something awaiting a fax like the absence of the English help files?

    Do you use a firewall?
Do you see any error messages during the update process?
If yes, please post here a screenshot.

I had exactly the same problem with both ewido 4 and AVG-AS 7.5; what happened is that after install they refused to update automatically and I had to do it manually for a couple of days. But the strange thing is that the automatic feature started working of its own accord after that.

So see what happens when you switch on tomorrow, it could be that the manual updates will have kickstarted the autoupdates.

Yes I have Panda AntiVirus and Firewall 2007, but no warnings have been received. If Panda displays a warning, it is by an almost immediate pop-up.

AVG-AS 7.5 auto-updated immediately after the install. (ZA and WD asked for permission).

I carried out a manual update immediately after installing this software, but have had to carry out manual updates since then. Ewido used to update automatically 2, 3 and 4 times a day, but AVG AntiSpyware does not do this as yet.

    Hello,

I have exactly the same problem. AVG anti-spyware does not seem to update the definitions automatically like ewido used to do. Right now my definitions are out of sync with the ones stated on the ediwo web site.

    Regards,
    Yannis

Same problem here. After switch from Ewido to AVG never had again automatic updates. Have to do it mannually.

My firewall (ZA Pro) give all the permissions so it is not a firewall problem.

Is there a log where we can see if AVG tried to update and what was the outcome?

Just to say that Panda have given me two things to try to get AVG AntiSpyware 7.5.0.47 plus listed in the programs authorised to access the Internet. Alas neither has worked and I have e-mailed them to that effect.

I have just had to update AVG manually again, but no listing by Panda and no warning pop-up that a new program was trying to access the Internet.

    Where now please?

We found the problem. It will be fixed in the next release.

    We're sorry for the inconvenience.

How such a simple issue escaped the beta testing phase (if there is one) is beyond belief. Before it was the resident shield not removing tracking cookies automatically and now is this...

    Very disappointing :(

From the (few) posts in this thread it appears as if not that many users were affected. Mine auto-updates regularly.

It is not a matter of the problem appearing in a small group of people or not. It is more the fact that really obvious and annoying problems escape the testing phase and are found in public releases. For example in Ewido ver. 4.0 the automatic shield was turning itself off, Ewido did not always autostart on reboot; to name a few. They took so long to realese the new version and it has still problems. And no, the fact that it does not happen to everyone in this board is not an excuse, judging to the nature of the problem and the price that AVG anti-spyware is sold to the public.

    Yannis

Sorry for the inconvenience, but unfortunately no software is bug free.
Naturally, (support) boards are always crowded with people who have problems with the software, therefore it might look like that a software is full of bugs and problems. Users who have problems are always shouting louder than people who are happy, they usually keep quiet. That might also be the reason why other companies don't even have a public board - we dared to have one! :)

Compared to a two-digit amount of million installations, at least in my opinion, the number of problems is still very low. It could be even lower, of course.

I can guarantee that we did our best to ensure that the public build is as bug free as possible and that none of the bugs appeared during our internal testings.

Thank you for the reply. I understand your point and I believe you when you say "we did our best to ensure that the public build is as bug free as possible...", however it seems that bugs do escape the internal testing stage, and moreover these bugs are, what I would characterise as critical for the proper protection of the system. Maybe you need to follow a different testing strategy(?) (e.g. see Agnitum which has several beta testers and moderators providing support and doing extra testing before a final release; they are simply amazing). I am reading this forum a couple of weeks now and it is obvious that you are trying your best to provide support to your customers, whether that is enough is up to you to decide and tell.

    Regards,
    Yannis

How will we be notified of next release? Through update or must we check the web page and download a completely new program?

I am just very glad I stuck with my Ewido v4.0 and will continue to do so until signature updates are no longer supported.

We released a new setup for the new fixed Version 7.5.0.50. Deployment via Updates will be available in a short while. (Minutes or Hours, is actually not known).
