Norton Ghost versus FDISR.....

    Anybody running Norton Ghost. I never tried it so far as I am trialing FDISR now a days. I saw some snapshots of latest Ghost and I think it has some options very similar to FDISR, like scheduled snashots and system recovery.
    Can any body compare the two software? ( Though I know they are a bit different software but work on same priciple-- that is imaging).

    Also how u people rate Ghost as imaging tool. Is it reliable like IFW, IFD etc?

    No comparison. Ghost is a backup/imaging program, not intended for immediate recovery. In theory it should be good if you have a disk failure where as FDISR won't help you directly. On the other hand for a software corruption issue Ghost requires a full restore, like any other imaging software.

    It would be like comparing Rollback with HDSClone, or their eazfix relatives. Day and night.

    Hi Aigle

    I missed the relative to IFD/IFW. I would stick to FDISR and IFD/IFW. If you run into problems it's always nice to have techsupport. You do with both FDISR, and IFD/IFW. Norton's techsupport on the hand is "Ghostly"

    Thanks. As I read before the imaging function of it was told to be useless by some.

    If you want to really learn about Ghost go here http://radified.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi Start at the "low board" All the ghost experts reside here, and also it's the only viable source of support.

    Thanks for the link. But I think as u said about the lack of support I should not try it, even good. May be some play with it later.

    HI Aigle.

    The guys at Radified are great. They will answer your questions before you step in, and then if you try GHost of any flavor they will help you. The old timers there would probably recommend Ghost 2003 as the most reliable

    In my opinion a better question would be Ghost vs. either Image for Windows or Acronis. In my unprofessional opinion, Ghost does not compare to either of the latter programs.

    For a full disc restore Ghost would be my choice as I have done numerous restores with it without any issues. Acronis has let me down several times and that is not acceptable to me. But I do love my FDISR, wouldn't replace for any other similar product.
