I still think it uses the Avira engine because if you look at the screenshot posted earlier you see the engine version is 6.35.1.0 which the the EXACT version of avira's current engine also. ;)

The latest engine version is 7.01.xx but maybe for AntiVir6 its 6.35.1.0.
Yes, they mention about behaviour blocking but nowadays AV companies
are using all sorts of words to describe how powerful their engine is. Who
knows it might be using the AntiVir engine too.

AntiVir is NOT using any kind of behavior analysis. BitDefender does however... So it's kinda obvious.

Read my post carefully. I said AV companies use a lot of words. For
example, in some documents Trend Micro says their engine has heuristics
capabillity. But its only macro heuristics. So its possible that Ashampoo
means something else. Maybe its plain heuristics. Its also possible that
Ashampoo worked for years and its their own engine. Its foolish to jump
    to conclusions so early.

No, behavior analysis is a very specific term.

$29.99 for AV  deal just got worse. :p To get it out in the market place for a limited time $14.99 would make a whole lot of sense.

I also agree that a new product intro. such as this should always have a trial.

I am not trying to fuel the flames here, but aren't BD9 and 10 the only versions with Bhave? And if so then how can the engine version be 6.xx.x.x when BD9 is 7.08577? I also know that companies use generic sigs to catch a family, but dropping 140+ sigs in 2 days?
These as stated are just thoughts. and it doesn't matter anymore unless someone wants to shell out the cash. ;)

AntiVir does behaviour analysis during scanning, but it doesn't have behaviour blocking (analysing API usage of active processes).

Nope. The signatures are clearly from 13th August, so if they used BD engine, the signatures count would be lower than 480127. Since its higher, its not BD. It should be AVIRA since the engine version is the same. However, the signature count could be lower than AVIRA because they may not have included the spyware bases...:doubt:

hmm.... strange indeed. Anyway, if they would have provided a trial it will be better. :)

I know its off the topic but isn't that just generic detection? Are you talking about their anti-spam heuristics. Please throw a little more light.

no, even if something completly new file infector gets detected as PE_Generic it does not mean that it is a 'generic detection' by signature. i mean real heuristic in this case, even if not long ago i would been said that trend does not have heuristic in "heuristic" sense.

For those who want to buy their product, you guys can always try this... ...:) Register with their Newsetter, they'll send you their new products and promotions... :) or go to here to keep up-dated.

I will no buy their AV,AS or FW, as I am using NOD32, Outpost and CounterSpy; but when they develope something, they mean business. I am using their Burning Studio since ver 3; and their UnInstaller Platinum and Magical Snap:D , they never let me down.

By the way, I tested the Beta, it detect what NOD32 missed... :), I uninstalled due to certain error which they mentioned in the reply email that it will be fixed.

I asked them if there Antivirus have antispyware or not? and this is the answer :

The "Security Suite" is a good idea, but all what we need to know now is the price :)

So basically this confirms my suspicion that Ashampoo AV is using the AntiVir free edition engine, and does not detect spyware. So the only good point over AntiVir Free is that the update servers are better. AntiVir Premium costs about the same anyway, so I think AntiVir Premium is a better choice than Ashampoo AV.

Someone really needs to test this AV out. I was looking through the Installer files for this AV and I found this in their English help file:

Very interesting as the website makes no mention of spyware detection with Ashampoo AV.

I haven't tried their antivirus product, but have trialled their burning program, which is very good. However, I registered for their newsletter and I've been bombarded with marketing emails. I have canceled the newsletter but still get advertising emails for their products, and they are becoming really annoying.

After tinkering around with their product I have found the following things:

    1) It does indeed seem to be using the same database as AntiVir Premium edition but I am yet to verify it.
    2) It has MailGuard but it is only activated when you set the program to Maximum Security Protection. Unfortunately, the Maximum Security also gives very high CPU priority to the AV's processes which can cause problems.
    3) I am not sure how the renewal/upgrade policy will work with this AV. Ashampoo has been known to charge for major version upgrades (for example, version 1.0 to 2.0, 2.0 to 3.0 etc.). No idea why there is an option for license extension when the upgrades are paid anyway....

So, for now at least, this product offers much the same protection as AntiVir Premium but its licensing details are still in doubt, so I would still recommend AntiVir over this clone. :)

Detection rates are the same as AVIRA AntiVir Premium. A strange thing is that the program does not allow setting a primary and secondary action in case of malware detection. You can set only the primary action and that only has options like "Clean", "Quarantine", and "Delete". So if the first action fails, Ashampoo AV will take no further action.

that doesn't sound good there should always be a secondary action for the user's safety.another thing is there is no way to exclue files or folder's..
