    Hi

What do you think is the best suite?

    My choice?

    1. KIS 6.0 ; Great protection but bit slow
    2. BullGuard 7.0; great protection and low CPU
    3. Bitdefender ISS 10; great protection
    4. Antiviruskit 2006; Great protection but real slow
    5. Trend Micro 2007;

Perhaps it will be NOD32 3.0?

    What is your opinion?

this would be my list for the suites, i tend to try all suites as im not a lover of cho and change software, prefer the all in 1 method, performs better in my opinion and is a whole lot cheper than buying different amounts of software,

    1. trend micro pc-cillin 2007 - fantastic, but high ram, see thread. and cheap.
    2. bitdefender 10 - cheap-ish, great antivirus, ok firewall and spyware.
    3. kaspersky internet security 6 - great antivirus, poor firewall, av, spyware
    4. norton internet security 2007 - great firewall, decent av
    5. f-secure - great antivirus, great firewall ... suite = good but not great.

Why do you think KIS has a poor firewall? Trend hasn't even an IDS. AND F-secure is only a packet filter and has nothing else and you say that is has a great firewall

Maybe i have missed something because it is 1,5 year ago i have tested Trend and F-secure. What can the Trend firewall do better then KIS 6.0?

If you want something that offers really good protection with no bloated stuff go for KIS.
Or for KAV+outpost pro if you want a more complicated and configurable firewall.

    P.s
I have been waiting Nod32 v3 with anxiety but it's going to come out by the end of the year I think.I dont know if it will have a HIPS though as KIS.

Yes if that test of your's is good then trend did realy a nice job. But you mentioned that the AV detected the leaktests as virusses. It would not supprise me if TREND cheated with the leaktests. All these leaktests are always the same they connect to some sort of server/website. Maybe Trend has a database or something and when a connection attemt is made for one of these addresses it is automatticaly blocks them. Can you tell me what messages you get when you test it? Maybe some screenshots of the messages that Trend generates when you run the leaktest. It has to ask you something, if not they cheat !!

    1. they are not my tests, they are national
    2. yes trend did find spyware in them, so did mcafee.
    3. yes it passed 17 of the 19, beating ALL competition. (yes it does ask you something when running them)

£26 for 3-pc licence, they have lowered their price, and yes the new suite includes rootkit detections.

    no, i dont.

but with current competition as it stands, i have to recommend trend.

even at worst, get someone to try the trial and then they will see. :D

words can only take it so far

Ok i was only joking. I will try it in a couple of days or so. Can you tell me somthing more about the firewall. Does it have an IDS? Does it have an option to block an attacker for a XX of minutes? Does it have a HTTP/Web antivirus ( so it detects virusses before it gets on your harddisk)?

look, first I have tried it, ok. I am not going to spout off wthout ever giving the benefit of the doubt. I am a old man and have learned over the years that nothing is, or works perfect. Ok. It was better then the new CA, by leaps and bounds. I agree they have made great strides and yes, their antispyware, is in the suite. This is one product I have loved for a long time. It was SpySubtract before they bought it and has CWShredder in it. So a good post about the product you feel strongly in, is exactly what you should do. But most that come here feel weak about suites. But if I went with one after Kis, or Nods future one, yours would be first on my short list.:)

yes lets have no more bickering,

i did do a thread on the new trend suite,

i have never dissed kaspersky antivirus, we know its up there as one of the good ones, my argument about the kaspersky suite was 'mainly' their anti hacker product, most users of the kaspersky suite will agree with this and some even suggest others to just use KAV with maybe outpost? This is a comment i can understand, as when people do go for different softwares, a spyware detector also comes into place aswell, making this a costly affair, peole tend to go for software like counterspy etc which will not beat trends, which is embedded into their suite.

i do also like the bitdefender suite, but their firewall im still not too sure about and their spyware is not as good as trends, which is why i would rate it my 2nd fav suite. :D

i am very very impressed with pc-cillin 2007 and i think upto now its best around as a complete package!
the ram issue is found with many pc's but with not all of them, including mine..

Yes as for kaspersky,no one needs to talk about the AV,its the best but the anti-spam and anti-hacker are pretty average.
Also kaspersky does have bugs, but it depends on pc to pc.

bitdefender 10 was the worst suite i have tried since 1998! it wouldn't allow my pc to boot after installation, wouldn't un-install in safe mode.I had to format my hdd.

Norton IS 2006 the best available among 2006 versions, light very good AV/AS and firewall is the one of the best you will find in security suites..
    But suffers from bad publicity.

    So,to sum-up upto now(9/25/06) trend-micro looks the best..

Type in TMPROTECT when you buy it, and you can get it for about $46.00. Even I have to admit, that isnt bad.

    hi bigc,

i contacted trend within 10 seconds to chat to a real life person, big :thumb:

here is the result in screenshot form.

    "no harm in asking"

EDIT: screenshot removed, due to privacy rules of this forum, i have requested that trend gets added to av comparatives and am waiting a reply, thats the jist of it.

please do not use that antiviruskit thing that is on av comparatives, i know its rated well but it did mess up my machine, frequent crashes / uninstallation problems (i suppose norton still has these aswell ? ) and false positives, by this i mean it deleted some of my windows.

bullguard i aint too sure of, i think they use bitdefender free scan engine with sygate firewall, something like that... i may be mistaken on this and will own up to it if i am :)

maybe this was just my exerience of the software, but word of warning....

Did you talk to the owner of av-comparatives before talking to Trend Micro On his behalf. I surely hope so.

yes i certainly did, as the post above says.

    but...

i remember messaging him but forgot the reply, so asked again if permission from trend was needed before i contacted them, now.. we wait and see i suppose. :D

free customer service in seconds, i never knew that... ive never used that before, reminds me of mcafee, they have/had a online chat thing, but it just took longer.

    Technical Capabilities

The Personal Firewall functions as a stateful firewall. It monitors the state of network connections and the actual packets of data transmitted (not just the headers), examining both to make sure nothing strange happens. Packets that do not match the specifications of a given network connection get rejected, as do packets that fail to match the pattern established by prior transmissions.

For example, your Personal Firewall can recognize if a protocol other than HTTP started running on port 80.

Your Personal Firewall also incorporates the following features:

The Intrusion Detection System prevents known firewall attacks (such as too big fragment attacks, overlapping fragment attacks, tiny fragment attacks, ping of death attacks, SYN flooding, and IP conflict attacks).

Ports known to be used in Trojan horse program attacks remain closed by default.

Updateable firewall and IDS rules are supported.

Server-to-server HTTP strings are blocked to prevent attacks by network viruses.
