Hi, folks: Since my KAV6 expires very soon. I have been entertaining the following:(1) to extend KAV and bring AntiVir classic(scanner only) aboard as backup. or(2) to get AntiVir premium as primary and find a secondary. the reason for(2): AntiVir premium has achieved a highest scores on AV-comparative test. Can some of you provide me some good guidance? Thanks.:shifty:

These choices would come down to $ for me.

Say that you chose AntiVir Premium as your primary, what would you use as your backup scanner?

KAV and AntiVir are quality programs. While I think that AntiVir Premium is a bargain,I'd be tempted to use both(option #1).

If you choose #1, be sure to Install without the Guard, if you just disable it, it's reported to 'enable' on each Update.

I am happy with the AntiVir Classic free and do Online Scan w/KAV.

Antivir Premium's probably enough. I think for a safe surfer, a minor (0.2% for example) detection difference shouldn't affect anything. Even a risky surfer maybe.

I know this is a SECURITY board but be realistic. You probably won't get infected just by virtue of the fact that you participate and read these boards. 99.x (whatever Antivir got) is more than enough protection, it's less bloated and it's cheaper.

You're forgetting something, he's renewing & therefore get 30% off, also where do these prices you quote count, when i for example look at the sites, i get €20 for AntiVir & €29.95 and thats if you buy and are not renewing, but it will all depend on where you live.

Perman, AntiVir has "won" 1 test!, whereas in the others, Kaspersky was at the top, maybe AntiVir will keep the same pace, but only time will tell, i'm not saying it's bad, in fact i was one of those that defended it when it was under heavy fire from some of the freeware users earlier.

In my tainted eye's you should renew and not install a second scanner, you don't really need it.

kaspersky has been a great scanner for ages.

    but antivir is improving.

oddly when kaspersky first came out its detection rate was rubbish but now look at it now its one of the top av's.

of course Don would reccomend kaspersky, but kaspersky is a great av imo.

but watch out kaspersky antivir is not far behind.. keep up the good work.

once the new heristic engine is out kaspersky users will be really laughing

hey kaspersky is still definatly in the running but so is antivir.

i really do like the startup scan. and the fast scans after first run.

and kaspersky has been proven great detection.

I would also like to say that nod32 is definatly out of the running.

if i have any problems I can ask don.

i might see if i can get it soon because even if im just browsing websites f-secure webscanner has a cpu spike and makes my music jump.

today i looked at found it was only £24 for the av which is cheap enough.

trjam did you buy kav or kis?

ps I think I beat your avatar:)

Main AV with backup and backup for backup with additional backup for backup backup. Huh? Why people need so much stuff? I bet you guys have like 10 anti-spyware apps installed...

I use Antivir Classic PE and I understand the AOL AVS is a KAV knock off. They both are excellent functionally and all indications are they protect very well. I don't know what else to say. :doubt: How can you go wrong with either. Except you pay for KAV or will need to put up with Notifier nag screen or disable it if you just detest it. :) I like them both :-* .

Would you consider posting your security setup in the link provided so people can see what might be an indication of the proper amount? As people are always asking if they have enough or too much. Please direct me to the post if you've already posted there. Sorry if you consider this request rude as that is not my intention. https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?p=843560#post843560

    ask yourself a question,

why are you using antivir, because of the latest av comparatives test.

who where this company before this months test, one test and everyone buys it.... all that trust in, because of ONE good review, i think it takes alot more pursuading that just one review to jump on the bandwagon and buy this very unknown product.

i tried it, and it didnt feel like much to me and slowed boot times.

ask yourself, if that ONE review didnt get released, would anyone be running this software?

something to think about im sure......

people putting their trust in money into a product because of one persons view for ONE month on the product.

if f-prot gets 99% this month, i guarentee everyone to use to ... surely not a way to choose your security, upon reading one review.
i know i will get the honest people that agree with this comment, and also the ones that say "ive always used antivir and they are fantastic" hehe, but it had to be said :)

I would suggest you to stick with KAV.
If Antivir keeps toping the comparisons I would suggest you to switch but you should wait a little more time before changing.

chrisjackson1985: FYI, AntiVir has received the following awards this year:

Chip Online Readers Choice Award: 1st place
PC Magazin: Product of the Year
    PC Welt: Best Security Software
    Computer Bild: Best Free AntiVirus
Digital Lifestyle Award (CHIP Online, FOCUS Online, TOMORROW and Xonio.com):
2nd place in category software, beaten only by Firefox
    TÜV Certificate: 100%
Virus Bulletin February, April, June : 100%
    WinTotal: User Award, 1st place
    AV-Comparatives: 2x Advanced+ in OnDemand, 1x Advanced in Retrospective
    Softpedia: 5/5 Top Pick
    ICSA Labs Certification

Those were the awards i could find within 5 minutes, I am pretty sure there are a lot more out there....

They have almost 20 million users of the freeware version, not counting commercial licenses.
Their product has a pretty long history (18 years) and has received some really nice improvements this year, I am not sure why you reduce it to only the av-comparatives test. It's known for years, and it's known to be pretty good. It is not their fault that many magazines/online reviews simply do not test them because they are not widely known outside of europe, which has been their primary market so far. That's where international marketing comes into play, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the quality of the product.
