    Hello,

I am already some time surfing this board.
And i must say there is great information on it.
Now I am a little bit confused of all the threads I read.
That's why I ask it in a new thread.
I just installed the trial of Kaspersky Internet Security 6 on my desktop and laptop.
Is this enough to protect my pc and laptop,or do I need more?
I really need a good protection, and i will pay for that.
Maybe you can recommend me some other programs,or maybe I have to change my program.
Just what I said I need very good protection, and i understand this is not for free.
I am looking forward to your reactions and help.:thumb:

    Thanks a lot

    Richard

KIS would be enough for me. I doubt you need anything else. If it's a suite you want, then you've got one of the best available anywhere. More and opposing opinions to follow. ;)

    Thanks for your reply.
It's not that I really want a suite, but i need really good protection.
    I thought that a suite was easy,all in 1.
But maybe there can be a much better set up then just a suite.
I am open for all your reactions and tips.

KIS is definatly enough for most people and if you are using it and happy with it just keep it.

well you could chop and change

    have one firewall
    have one antivirus
    have one antispyware
    have one pop up blocker

i could go on, but its just too expensive and will not perform any better, plus its just too much hassle.

well in fact a firewall router aka nat device would be useful and block out most of the rubbish. and maybe,
Superantispyware (free version)to check for spyware run once a week to check.
A Squared free to check for malware run once a week.

I think a nat device is a must these days.
the other two you dont need but I reccomend to double check.

    hope this helps

At the moment i am quite happy with it.
It don't slow down my pc,what other set ups did.
Before i used Outpost Pro,KAV6,Prevx1 and Counterspy.
This set up slowed down my pc,that's why i wanted something else.
I checked this forum for all the Internet Security suites and I thought that at the moment KIS6 is the best you can get.
    Or am i wrong?

The only thing i am wondering about are the automatic updates.
I knew from some other AV's that those are automatic updates almost every hour.
How is this with KIS6,i see my definitions are from 3 hours ago.
If i do a manual update, the program is running the updates.
Is this normal,or is there something wrong?

You can probably alter the frequency of update checks. But wait for someone else to advise you as I am a NOD user at present.

The question was focused on security suites only and KIS in particular. If that is your starting point, a persuasive case can be made that it is the best protection today in one package from one vendor.

If you impose additional constraints or add flexibility to allow multiple vendors yielding a user designed suite, you could very well come up with another package.

Are the other suite packages woefully behind KIS? No. Some are on the top rung of the ladder with KIS, some trail a bit, but for pure coverage, KIS is at the top of that heap on the top rung. There are some costs for that with respect to compatibility, and that's why it may not be the best solution in specific cases.

I agree with you Blue, i think if you have got the cash KIS is the best al rounded secuirty suite. but you could get say kav and look n stop or nod32 and look n stop or kav and outpost etc.

i just hope chrisjackson1985 isnt saying definatly wrong.. because he prefers e.g nod32.

theres never any reason to put down a product because you dont use it and havent given it a fair chance.

now i know i put down norton but i used it for 2 years and have reasons to.

Thank you for the nice comments :thumb:
Okay now we are talking here that KIS6 is the/or one of the best.
But i feel in some words that it can be better ,if i use a firewall,av etc.
Is this true?If yes, what can you recommend me for this?
It's not that i really want a suite, but a great protection of my laptop and desktop.

Isee your point. and soon im gonna get KIS so i only need to update one product rather than two or three. it makes it eaiser.
but some say it can be better say kaspersky one of the best av's and outpost one of the best firewalls and that way you got best for both.

I would reccomend kav because I belive its the best av. and you could try look n stop firewall because its good and also light on resourses.

or kav and prevx1 and keep windows firewall on. prevx1 gives outbound protection and windows firewall gives inbound firewall protection.

I strongly sergest a nat device since it will filter out alot of the rubbish.

    Rimo,

The question is a little more complicated than just what is best. There's a question of how many of the details you wish to delve into the effectively use whatever products you end up with.

If there is a weak link in KIS, it is the Kaspersky AntiHacker firewall. I still don't think it is quite up there with other commercial firewalls, but it has improved over the last year or so (when it was objectively abysmal). However, if you want basic firewall protection, it is fine as is now. It's not industrial strength like many, but it's fine.

For me, I like simple. KIS alone is fine. The machines I run use a variety of approaches. I have one rather static system - it runs NOD32/LooknStop/AntiExecutable. A second, more dynamic than the first, runs F-Prot (v4 beta)/PrevX1/Outpost (v 4.0). Three more run KAV Workstation (V5)/BOClean/LooknStop. I have one system running KAV WKS 6.0 beta(KAH and a couple other modules not used)/AntiExecutable/LooknStop. Finally, there's a NOD32/BOClean/LooknStop system. All work fine, all are configured for speed, and none have been compromised through all the layers (yea, you don't need a thousand layers to be very well protected). Each approach has it's strengths and weaknesses.

If you are interested in KIS, the first step is to trial it and see how well it agrees with your system.

hi, i used to use kaspersky but it gave me problems with operating my system, maining when connecting NEW software, a firewall usually pops up with allow / deny, and kaspersky fails in this aspect now and then.
also with kis, i also had problems with certain aspects of the software not loading, it will load with "malfunction" and request a re-install or reboot.

also kaspersky is huge in cost, but even if money doesnt matter as in my case it doesnt, i still prefer to use a better suite.

bitdefender 10 and trend micro 2007 are both better than KIS, and the new trend is not only better, its also extremly less expensive (3 subscriptions for 12months - £49.95 ) and when all the reviews start coming out, this will be awarded the gold award / 5 star etc etc

i do admit though that KIS is one of the best suites out there, but there are better in my opinion.

but as the market stands at the moment, there are quite a few suites to use that 'will do the job'

best proactive antivirus - trend micro 2007
best firewall in a suite - trend micro 2007
    best heuristics - panda TruPrevent

kaspersky 'does' have a big flaw with the so-called anti-hacker system which i do not trust at all

a perfect software would be trend antivirus with built in zonealarm with truprevent and kasperskys speed in getting new signatures.

    dare we to dream?

but to be honest, alot of the suites do the job in protecting now... the quality of the softwares are great at the moment, compared to a few year ago when only some of them were good.

    id feel safe using:

    trend micro pc-cillin 2007
    kaspersky internet security 6
    bitdefender 10
    norton internet security 2007

as stand alone antivirus, id feel safe using:

nod32 (has problems with deletion in my opinion)
avg - low detection rate compared to av comparatives, but in real life its safe
antivir - looks a bit cheap and cheerful, but apparently does the job.

    but.......

im still a strong believer in TRY BEFORE YOU BUY, as different people have different opinions and the bottom line is 'you will only use one that you will cmfortable with', this may include the way the software runs / updates / scan speeds / interfaces / ram usage / cpu usage / disk space usage etc etc

good luck original poster, the choice is yours.

its what works for you in the end.

I dono about antihacker i might just get kav and a different firewall to save problems.

im not saying there is anything wrong with antihacker but i just would prefer to use something else.

I know that it's also what you prefer and what you need.
After reading this topic I think I am better of with just KAV6 and a good firewall like LooknStop or maybe Comodo.
I tried Outpost Pro firewall, but i got really grazy of this one.
This should be a better combination than just KIV6,but what about the slow down of the pc?
Sorry to ask all these things, but I want to be sure that I will get a great set up.

like they said, it's what works best for your system, plus i would like to add that it also depends on your surfing habits...

im behind a router and KIS' antihacker is enough for me, i dont usually go to "you know what sites". plus, i play 3d games on this computer without disabling KAV's realtime protection...

    those are also good combinations...

i also have several computers with configuration similar to BlueZannetti's but on this computer which i do most of my work and play, i prefer a single solution like KIS...

    okay,i will be honest.
The reason why i need a really great security set up it's because I am an Adult webmaster.
So sometimes i also visit "you know what i mean sites".
I know that for a usual surfing habbit a lighter set up can be fine, but for what i do i need a more heavy set up.
Maybe this is a little bit more clear for you.
I hope that you are not shocked on the way I earn my money
But anyway I hope that you can give me the right info now you now where I need it for.
    Thanks :thumb:
