All hooks are not bad, hooks are necessary for rmany legitimate programmes as well. Even IE and firefox put a system wide hook to run.

Please explain the problems with redundancy between ah and jetico. o_O

    Thanks

I think I will try out AH when I have the time to install it and read the rules to use it right. But AH thanks for giving us free software that we can use for our benefit!!!

I gave AH a try but unfortunately it didn't seem to play well with SandboxIE. I couldn't seem to get any programs to run in the sandbox with AH running. But I suppose I don't have the .net framework installed so I couldn't access the rules editor to make any changes. I had to dump AH due to this incompatibility with SandboxIE. It seems you can't do much with AH without access to the rules editor. Not a bad looking program otherwise.

Removal of antihook free for home users

Well I just removed AntiHook, it kept asking each time for processes that had been allowed many times before.o_O

StartUp was getting back to four minutes of WinXP's splash screen and the three bars that usually just scroll a few seconds to stalling and dissappearing and the latest was opening Rules Editor and seeing SO Many UnChecked.:thumbd:

Put it in "allow Everything, rebooted and went to ControlPanel Add/Remove and first removed Rules Editor and then AntiHook, rebooted and then did a CleanUp to remove temp files etc..:cautious:

Still took five reboots for the 'splash screen' time to return to normalo_O

Currently AH is not compatible with Sandboxie. I checked myself and then confirmed from sandboxie forum as well.

    some issues with AH:

when startup AH icon not in systray, when trying to open some app it just hang there.AH was set to fingerprint mode.have to make a reboot then AH is workin normal.

when AH is started, i can't start service like window installer( when i need to install the rule editor and .net)even 'allow all' mode don't seem to help.had to startup by disable AH from starting up with window then it solve the problem.

how can i add rules to the rule editor to protect app being kill?

i used the APT(advance process terminate) util. to try killing others app and AH. only AH survive, the rest was kill either by 'kenel kill' or 'kill no.10'.

lastly , i don't see any popup or warning from AH that what had been block by AH. sometime i coulden't open a app or my com hang when opening a app
at least i think it shoulden't act like PG blocking silently.i'm at 'fingerprint'mode,if fingerprint mode is to allow all activites than it shoulden't had hang or stop some service from starting. so which mode should i use in AH.

    Hi,

Why not talking about the AH issues on its forum? ;)

    Maybe they can be fixed...

I tried that and AntiHook's Forum has a memory as bad as AntiHook Software.
Registered and upon trying to make above post, it said I was using wrong password.

Done with AH, hope above info will be of value to others.:doubt:

    Hi All,

AntiHook 3.0 went into a limited Beta release a few days ago, details here: AntiHook Forum

Initially AntiHook 3.0 will be a commercial release. Once released the long awaited 2.6 (the updated 2.5 free version) will follow soon after.

    regards,

AntiHook 2.6 - free for home users

    Hi All,

We have now released an update to the current shipping AntiHook 2.5 product called 2.6 (build 14)

This release delivers the following changes:

    * Registration has been removed - 2.6 is free for home users and a registration key or step is NOT required now.

    * New encryption techniques are being used which should result in improved system performance.

    * The old icon for the System Tray and Control Centre has been changed to the blue/gray shield (same as in AH 3.0).

    * The install does more checks to ensure the user is not running an unsupported Operating System (e.g. Vista is not supported at this time).

    * An Uninstall link is now available directly from the start menu.

This is a minor update from AntiHook 2.5, and apart from the above changes doesn't implement the new design and increased security being developed in 3.0.

Version 2.6 however will continue to be supported and free for home users for some time to come.

    It is available via Download.com:
    http://www.download.com/AntiHook/3000-2239_4-10301119.html
or via links on our website:
    http://www.infoprocess.com.au

    cheers,
    Tim.

Hi,folks: It is nice to hear that AH is again offering average PC users an extra sense of comfort and security. Thank you. Meanwhile, I do have a minor question to ask; I learn from a earlier posting regarding its compatibility with sandboxie, has this issue been resolved? how about with DeepFreeze? Since DF also uses virtual technology. I am using DF and fall in love w/ it, perhaps I can use AH to substitute Anti-executible (this app is highly recommended by DF to plug the issue created by "Unfreezer" from Brazil). I shall await your reply before trying AH again. Thanks.

    Hi Perman,

no unfortunately we have not done worked on compatability with sandboxie at this stage.

I had someone test AH 3.0 beta out with DF and no issues were reported, so I would say "should" be no issues with AH 2.6 either.

I installed it today. I also run PG. AH tries to modify about every process I have running, including PG itself. Needless to say I immediately uninstalled it. Just posted this over at their support forum (which is not even mentioned on their homepage?), but not much going on there, I guess. I'm curious as to why this happened.

    Take care,

    Mike

U should ask it rom PG support as well.
I remember somebody asked similar Q about spyware doctor modifying smss.exe and the answer was that it infat does not modify rather opens/ reads smss.exe for protection and it should be allowed-- something like that,I don,t remember exactly.

    Hi Mike,

    what aigle says is right.

AntiHook does not modify processes as such but does need to attach its user
mode protection (DLL) to all processes running on your system, and thereby
is able to detect any modifications to those processes from potential
malware - so that is what PG was reporting.

You are also correct in not running both AH and PG together, we dont recommend it, neither do DiamondCS Im sure. Since the products both do similar things they tend to conflict, and running both of them is only doubling up on most things and not really adding extra protection. So run one or the other.

    cheers,
    Tim.

    Hi Badcompany,

we will look into this - most likely dr web av is throwing a false-positive. There is certainly no malware in InfoProcess software.

I am assuming that you are only downloading from download.com, which is linked to from our site, or on softpedia.com, who have certified 2.6 recently free of malware:

    http://www.softpedia.com/progClean/AntiHook-Clean-49171.html

We will report back here what we find out, thanks.

    Tim.
