    A friend of mine recently purchased and installed TI 9 home. He did a full backup and archive split them into 4.7gb chunks to burn later on to DVD. At the moment there are 15 files on his main 'C:' drive. He was installing a new external HDD and misread the instruction's and ended up deleting the 'Recovery' partition. If he used the backup and recovered to when he did the backup(about 1 week ago) will it get his deleted recovery partition back? I'm concerned that it may not do it as looking in Disk Management in XP it shows the Recovery partition and C: drive seperately. He didn't clone the HDD, he did a full backup.

    Also, he moved the 15 split files to his external HDD and when he went into the Acronis recovery he could not 'see' the files. Is this because they have been moved? I told him to put them back to their original location(my Documents folder) and try again. And lastly, i could not see anything in the help file stating how you recover a full backup from a split archive. What do you do? select the first archive and then go from there, or the last archive. Or do you reboot and hit F11. I must say the help file is rubbish! I have TI 9 as well and i've got all sorts of apps and the TI 9 help file is terrible. You look under recovery, and for the bit that says "Recover from split archive". Nothing! Surely this would be obvious to have a section dedicated to this requirement.

    Anyhoo, any help would be much appreciated.

    “will it get his deleted recovery partition back?”
    Only if it was backed up. When stepping through the backup process, did he check off the DISK option (which would include all the partitions) or just the PARTITION he wanted backed up?

    “Is this because they have been moved?”
    I doubt it. Could the external drive be seen at all?

    “select the first archive and then go from there, or the last archive”
    It does not matter. TI will know that all the separate segments are really part of the whole.

    It sounds as if he can still get into Windows. I would run TI from Windows and validate the image. If it’s OK, you can then mount/plug the image and see exactly what (or what’s not) contained in it.

    Thanks for the advice. I fear the partition has not been backed up. I just looked at it on my pc and TI 9 does not select it by default. In fact, my backup i did last Saturday does not include the Recovery(we have identical makes and models of Mesh pc's). I suspect the recovery partition is just a set of files. If so i think i may be able to back up my recovery and burn it to DVD and he could recover his that way. As they are the same pc's then my recovery partition should be identical to his. Worth a try.

    Usually, a Recovery partition contains the files and system specific drivers to get the PC back the way is was when you first received it.

    Hi all (especially to muf and TheWeaz)

    I am 'the friend' muf is referring to....being a newbie, yes I have inadvertently deleted the 'recovery' partion while installing/formatting a new 300gb External Hard Drive (see a screenshot).
    Looks like I will possibly have to contact Mesh Support for help/advice/recovery action......BUT I have just stumbled across a disc I got free with 'Personal Computer World'....on it is a full version of 'Paragon Partition Undelete'...the obvious question....will this work?. What are peoples personal experiences with partion deletion problems/recovery ?....is 'paragon Partion Undelete' a secure/safe/reliable piece of software ?
    Sorry for all the questions....just getting that sinking feeling I have really screwed up !!

    Cheers

    Hello ftwynne59 and muf,

    Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

    I. How to recover the accidentally deleted "Recovery" partition?

    There are two options available:

    1. If the accidentally deleted "Recovery" partition is in the image archive that you have created (you can find out by looking at the corresponding screen of the Restore Data Wizard) then you can simply restore it using Acronis True Image 9.0 Home (either within Windows or using the Bootable Rescue CD).

    2. In case the "Recovery" partition was not backed up, you can try to recover it using the special partition recovery software such as Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 embedded Recovery Expert tool.

    - Download and install the free trial version of Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 and start Acronis Recovery Expert;

    - See if it can find any partitions in the unallocated space on your system hard drive;

    Note that the free trial version is capable of finding the lost partitions, but cannot apply any changes, i.e. perform the actual recovery.

    - If yes, please visit Acronis online store to purchase the full version of the product;

    - Uninstall the free trial version (go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Acronis Disk Director), download and install the full version and recover the lost partition;

    - If Acronis Recovery Expert cannot find any lost partitions in the unallocated space, we recommend contacting the special service center regarding this issue. They will probably be able to recover the deleted partition using the more advanced technologies.

    You can find the detailed instructions on how to use Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 in the respective User's Guide.

    II. How to restore a multivolume backup archive?

    You can select any volume (i.e. any ".tib" file) of your multivolume backup archive, as Acronis True Image considers them all the entire backup archive anyway. Please see these previous threads for further details: All of the Images, What copy do I build on??.

    You can find more information on how to use Acronis True Image 9.0 Home in the respective User's Guide.

    We also recommend that you take a look at the Acronis True Image 9.0 Home FAQ page, Acronis Public Knowledge Base and this article providing the illustrated instructions on Acronis True Image 9.0 Home installation and usage.

    III. Why the backup is not "visible" for Acronis True Image after it is placed on the external hard drive?

    First of all, please make sure you use the latest build (3677) of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home which is available for downloading in the Product Updates section of your account at Acronis web site.

    You can find the full version name and build number by going to Help -> About... menu in the main program window.

    To get access to updates you should create an account then log in and use your serial number to register the software.

    Please uninstall the previously installed build by following Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Acronis True Image prior to installing build 3677.

    Note that you should create a new Bootable Rescue CD after installing the update.

    If the problem still persists with the latest build (3677) of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home, please try booting with the "acpi=off noapic" parameter as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

    If booting with the "acpi=off noapic" parameter does not help and you are using a USB connected external hard drive please check wether this hard drive is connected to the computer through a HUB. If yes, try connecting it directly. If it is connected directly, please try using a different USB port.

    If that does not help ether, please provide us with the following information:

    1. If the backup is not "visible" for Acronis True Image 9.0 Home when it is running within Windows then please create Acronis Report and Windows System Information as it is described in Acronis Help Post;

    2. If the backup is not "visible" for Acronis True Image 9.0 Home when your computer is booted from the Bootable Rescue CD then please create Acronis Report and Linux system information (sysinfo.txt) as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

    Note that sometimes the sysinfo.txt file is not readable under Windows. In this case please try entering the file name using capital letters (SYSINFO.TXT) or follow the instructions provided in this previous post of mine.

    If you do not have a floppy drive then please take a look at this previous post of mine explaining how to save the sysinfo.txt file to a USB flash drive.

    Please keep your external USB hard drive connected (and powered on) while creating Acronis Report and Windows\Linux system information.

    In any case, please also provide us with the following information:

    - Let us know the exact vendor, model and connection type of your external hard drive;

    - Clarify what you mean exactly when saying that you "cannot see the files"?

    - Are you able to see any of the external hard drive contents?

    Then please submit a request for technical support. Provide the files and information collected in your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.

    Thank you.
