Should I switch to Bitdefender AV?

Hi there, I was the one who use Zonealarm SS and switched to KAV5Pro + Outpost pro because of its problem with MSN display picture and their newest version has the same old problem. However, my KAV license will expire in very soon and I'm thinking about these options

1. Kav2006 - quite good but I've heard bad feedbacks on download.com so I'm not confident with its stability and resources compare to version 5.
2. Nod32 - many positive with this av but I''ve read this <snip> and I'm not sure about this.
3. Bitdefender10 - quite good same as version9

Actually, I'm interesting to switching to security suite too but I've feel bad with ZAISS so I'm not quite sure that I should stick with
1. Best AV + Outpost Pro
2. Security suite.

Give me some suggestion.

1. Kav 2006 Don Pelotas and other knowledgeable Kav users will help you and answer your posts.
2. NOD32 The review site you've linked to is regarded here as having little credibility. In fact you should be questioning Kav's second second place finish behind Bitdefender in that review.
3. Bitdefender10 seems to be having teething problems since its release judging from posts on this forum.

If I had to pick a suite I'd go with KIS. But I'd probably go with separate Av/ Firewall for now.

 

KIS is very good for a suite and Outpost + NOD32 or KAV would be equally good.

id go with the setup that runs best on your system and that you feel most comfortable with.

 

The test you said you read is useless. Toptenreviews is listed at SpywareWarrior as a rogue site and for good reason ;-)

 

As far as I've tested KAV2006 had much FP's than v.5.0..maybe they fixed it now. I"m not sure.
Anyway NOD32 doesn't give many FP. Watch the latest Proactive Test from av-comparatives.org. It has a special section with FPs.
And another thing related to BD now. In many times it seems unable to properly clean a PC infected with malwares. Just 2 days ago, one of my friends got infected with a Trojan.Downloader and BD did nothing (he had it as on-access scanner)..and his PC was full of viruses. I recommended him NOD32 and after a deep scan it cleaned everything and now his PC works like new. ...and this is not the first time I see BD behaving like that.

 

Personally, I'd go with Kaspersky Internet Security, but I think the best thing to do is test each of them to see if they meet your requirements. (I also hear that NOD is a very good AV, but haven't tested it). Take a look at

Download.com should not be used for any kind pre-purchase reviews IMO, it is for the most part filled with reviews from either fans of the program in question or fake bad reviews from employees or misguided fans of a competing AV unfortunately. Peruse the forums and use your inbuilt BS detector and make up your own mind after reading up on the programs which has your interest.

I have personally had almost every build made of 6.0 (beta & released, over 50 builds) and have settled on the suite after having been an avid Outpost user for some years, i have only had drama with a few of the beta builds with regards to stability.

 

im stuck between kaspersky and antivir atm.

 

I wouldn't take the feedbacks on download.com seriously either.

If you are torn between more than one choice,trial them one at a time.

As you can see in my sig I'm using KAV 6 with OutPost Pro and they do work like a charm. KAV doesn't use much resources either, but it does take a bit when starting up.
I don't mind that at all, besides it's not that long either. Time for a break anyway.
It also has a user-friendly GUI IMO, not like some I trialed.

When scanning all files it will take a bit longer then some others, although when scanning only changed files, it takes about 10 minutes to scan my 120 GB harddisk.

Nor do I've any stability issues here, never had in fact, even with the release candidates I tried.
It all depends on what hardware/software you use. Some will have problems, others won't.

NOD32 is my second choice and it runs light on my second system too.
If configured with Blackspear's settings, you can't go wrong.
The interface is not as friendly as KAV, although it does offer a lot of configuration options. Too much to sum it all up.
As always I do backup NOD32 with BOClean, but until now I haven't seen any popups from it.

Haven't tried BitDefender 10 yet, so I can't give you my opinion on that one, although I used BD 7 & 8 before I switched.
If you use the Search you'll find several topics about BD 10 and comparisons with others.

I agree with all the others that download.com isn't the place to get information.

@lodore: You'll have to make a choice soon. It won't be easy, but it's the best you can do.

Like the others already said, is taking them for a spin. Use the trial period to make your final judgement afterwards.

antivir is my best bet for me atm. but theres not much point buying it now because the suite is out soon so ill probaly wait for that. other wise i buy it then one or two months down the line the suite comes out.

 

Thanks for your info Made me easier to make decision. I'll try KAV6 at first and if I found no conflicts I'll buy its license soon.

I liked BD 10 at first. I thought it was going to be the AV to replace Norton on my system. However, I've noticed some issue, including but not limited to bogging down my system and conflicting with FD-ISR.

 

To be honest, I havent truley tested BD to its full potential, but its a matter of personal preffrence... BD is still in my top 4 AV list along side Kaspersky, NOD32 and F-Secure. I suggest you try the named out and make your choice depending on which you like using and which runs the best with your PC. Personaly, I'm happy with Kaspersky, but at the end of the day, its up to you

As everyone here knows no one AV product will catch/destroy all in the wild let alone new viruses.

So make sure you have a router out front then install an industrial strength AV, AMW, and 2 way software firewall to keep malware OUT. PREVENT is easier than CURE!

If you can't decide, trial them free, but I like one that has the "best" heuristics to deal with new evils with no signatures

AntiVir is a good free one, but a slow scanner(who cares, do it at night)

Forget Bitdefender 10 it seems to have too many issues.

I have stable BitDefender 9 which gets updates every few hours or so, I like that extra currency! It as well is slow on scanning, but I just let it run and go to dinner!

You can't have scanners that do a complete job ( looking inside packed files) and use no CPU cycles, there is no free lunch.

I was torn between Kav and Antivir. Nod wasnt even considered long term. I like Don and Kav, but Antivir is where my heart kept coming back to. I love this product and it is going to only get better. Some very nice support folks to. They realize they arent number 1, but with the dedication that are showing............

 

the thing is as you know antivir is lighter. kaspersky has proavtive defence but antivir doesnt have that type of thing so, antivir premium suite with prevx and counterspy ultimate. antivir is great. i had the same thing with antivir and kaspersky but I dont like the proxy problem it has a problem with quite alot third party firewalls. but i need layed protection as we all do. suites are nice but if it all turns off you have no protection. so thats why antivir suite, prevx as main real time. and counterspy to replace spysweeper for extra protection.

 

I am deleting my own post as it does not pertain to the orginal question, in answer to the posters question, I would stay as far away from Bitdefender as I could. That is just based on my own happenings with them.
