    I tried using Acronis 9 for the first time today, by making a backup to a DVD-RW

    None of the files would write to the DVD

    I got:

    Error writing the file. (0x40003)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Pete

    I do not know much about this other than that there have been others who have also had problems saving image backups to DVDs. You may want to do some searching within this forum for answers to your problem.

    Something that I do remember reading is the suggestion that when sving to DVD to select a 100MB file splitting size during the imaging process. I believe that some have had better success saving images to DVD when they tell TI to save the image in multiple files of no more than 100MB in size.

    Hello Pete,

    Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

    Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

    First of all, please make sure you use the latest build (3677) of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home which is available for downloading in the Product Updates section of your account at Acronis web site.

    You can find the full version name and build number by going to Help -> About... menu in the main program window.

    To get access to updates you should create an account then log in and use your serial number to register the software.

    Please uninstall the previously installed build by following Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Acronis True Image prior to installing build 3677.

    Note that you should create a new Bootable Rescue CD after installing the update.

    If the problem persists with the latest build (3677) of Acronis True Image 9.0 Home then please try the following tips in order to solve the problem that you experience:

    - Make sure you use blank unformatted DVDs;

    You can find more information on how to save your backups to DVD in this Acronis True Image 9.0 Home FAQ Artcile.

    - Try updating any third-party CD\DVD-writing software installed on your computer to the latest version available for free at the respective vendor web site.

    If the above does not help, please do the following:

    - Go to Start -> Run and issue the 'regedit' command;

    - Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\DebugLogs registry key;

    If this is the first time when this log is being issued, then the folder DebugLogs has to be created first;

    - Add cdrecord value (Type: DWORD; Data: 1)

    - Reproduce the problem and collect the cdrecord.log file created in Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Acronis\DebugLogs folder.

    Please also provide us with the following information:

    - Create Acronis Report and Windows System Information as it is described in Acronis Help Post;

    - Make a screen shot or provide the exact text of the error message that you receive upon the attempt to save backup to DVD;

    - When does this error message appear exactly?

    - Let us know the exact vendor and model of your DVD burner;

    - What type and brand of DVDs did you try to use?

    Then please submit a request for technical support. Provide the files and information collected in your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with a solution.

    Thank you.
