I don't have RAID set up though. Could it be the Internal Spare HD I have connected?

Here is the Log file created that gave me the Errors. I looked through it, and didn't find any personal information. Maybe someone can spot something. IF it's not safe to upload this Log file...Please let me know, and I'll remove it.

They all seem to relate to registry access - what security software do you have KAV - Zonelabs ?

    Thanks Starfish,
I don't have anything of the sort on this computer at all.
Only thing loading up is Norton 2006. (I even disabled that, and tried to create the CD, and still couldn't.)

I do have some things disabled in "Services".
Also, I recently downloaded all the XP security updates. Maybe they have something to do with it.

I'm using (pebuilder 3.1.10a). Should I try a different version?

Source is the location of the Windows installation files: so it should be either the CD drive letter or the path to the HD folder where you copied the contents of the Win install CD to.

In my instance Source is D:\WinXP_InstallCD\

The rest is OK, the empty Custom field too.

But the Win installation CD should be (slipstreamed to) at least SP1, better if SP2.

Just curious. The disc I have is "Windows XP Professional SP2". It already has SP2, so why should I have to slipstream it?

I've tried everything else. I'll give this a shot.

All these problems I've had trying to make the "BartPE Boot CD", makes me curious about something. Why doesn't Acronis make the Recovery Boot CD for Windows ....instead of Linux to begin with?? Most people use Windows.

The beginning of the log probably gives the problem:

Source product is: Windows XP Professional
CD-Rom name is: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD
    Microsoft Product Code: 76487
    Product channel ID is: OEM
Warning: building from an OEM version of Windows can mean trouble...

OEM..TROUBLE... That about says it all. Do you have any non-OEM versions of Windows XP sitting around? Doesn't have to be the same computer or even Professional, as long as you can get the storage drivers (if non-IDE anyway) and slipstream with an SP2 download.

The only Windows XP disc I have is "OEM".
bVolk has an OEM disc, and he created a successful BartPE CD.

SP2 obviously isn't your problem. Just that there are lots of non-SP2 installation discs out there.
I suspect it has to do with Microsoft licensing and $$$ issues. Otherwise, a Windows PE disc that would automatically identify and copy your storage drivers would be darned nice. Would probably save a bunch of money in ongoing development costs for Acronis, but I guess not enough... BTW, I thing Ghost uses a Windows PE rescue disc, but I believe life isn't perfect there either.

I don't know what to do next. o_O I'm puzzled at how much trouble this has been. Most people have no problems at all creating a BartPE CD. But then I come along, and must go through HELL to create one.:p I think if I ever do get to create one, I'm gonna sling it against the wall...just for the fun of it. ;)

I've tried everything i can think of. I even tried to copy the Windows Disc to a folder, and pointed PEbuilder to that folder that had the Windows installation files, ...but of course I got the same message.

    Just to clarify.

My installation disk is Windows XP Pro SP2, so no slipstreaming was required. It is OEM and PEbuilder threw a warning about that, but I think that's a licensing and not a technical issue.

The PEbuider I used was the original Bart's product, version 3110a.

I put some more details here

Well, Well....what do ya know!!!! I decided to try another Windows XP Professional SP2 Disc I got from Dell awhile back.
I finally created a successful ISO file.
The properties on this older XP disc reads (612,466,688 bytes)
The newer XP disc I got from Dell reads (613,054,464 bytes)

HMMMMM!!! Don't know what this newer XP disc contains that the older one don't. But anyway, I finally created this BartPE .ISO. I'll burn it to a CD, and get back to you guys here shortly.

BTW...I still gonna smash the first disc I burn because of the HELL it put me through.:D

I was able to burn the .ISO file to a CD (and smashed it as promised) , and then burned another one from the very same .ISO file.

I booted up the CD. I seen a "Starting BartPE" on the screen, and noticed the bottom of the screen loading.
    Then, got this message::

"The file iastor.sys could not be found. Press any key to restart your computer".

Well, at least there's progress here. :D

    **************************************

When I put the BartPE CD in the Rom, I see this. Are you suppossed to REBOOT with this BartPE CD in the DVD-Rom (the way you do Acronis' Boot CD), ...OR... are you suppossed to just insert the CD and let it load?? When I insert it in the DVD-Rom, it loads, and shows this.

You may have enabled a defective plugin. Here is what I have enabled.

You should reboot, though the Bart tools seem to work from normally running Windows as well. I wouldn't do the latter, afraid to corrupt the Win installation.

    Hey starsfan!

Enable the Boot Fix plugin if you didn't already. You may have trouble to retrieve the CD if you don't.
    See you later this morning.

I tried all the above bVolk.
Enabled all the Plugin's you have in your screenshots, (except for McAfee stuff--which I don't need). Also made sure "Boot Fix" was enabled as well.

The only difference this time was I had to press a key to boot up the BartPE CD. Otherwise, it would boot into Windows.

As it starts booting, I still get the same message...

"The file iastor.sys could not be found. Press any key to restart your computer".

    **EDIT::
After doing some searching, I found this "iastor.sys" problem to be related with Dell. There's a plugin that has to be installed first. I'll check this out, and post back later.
Here is a screenshot of this "iastor.sys" problem, and the solution.

Did a google on Iastor.sys. It's related to your SATA drivers. Did you install the drivers in the C:\pebuilder3110a\drivers\SCSIAdapter folder? If so, find that TxtSetup.oem file and put a # sign in front of all the non XP drivers in the [SCSI] section. If you didn't set up the drivers that way, then it's back to the OEM issue. If you haven't put your SATA drivers in that folder, then do it, as those are the exact files that can't be found! Hope that will work. Otherwise, not sure where it is looking for iastor.sys. If you knew, you could put it there too (if you have an iso image editor that is. If not, you could try WinISO http://www.winiso.com/. Good luck. I'm out for few days...

    Finally.........SUCCESS!!

I was finally able to make another .ISO file, and burn it to a CD. Rebooted, and the "BartPE" blue screen showed, and was able to load up Acronis.

Apparently, the problem was with Dell's Windows XP Professional SP2 OEM disc. But fortunately, they put a FIX for this. If you have a Dell computer, and try to use the Dell XP Disc, you'll need to go to ...http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/faq/, and look for ....
"When I boot, there is a iastor.sys boot problem". .

Download the file from Dell, and extract it directly into.. C:\pebuilder3110a\plugin.

Now, open PEbuilder, and build another .ISO file. Finally...burn it to a CD.

WOW....I think I'll get drunk after all this!!!
