My Fax decided to die. Before I run out and buy a new one I decided to surf the web for an alternative. I know many like Comodo's Firewall. I was wondering if anyone had ever tried using an online fax service like this one??

Any info on this r similar products would be welcomed. As always, thanks people.

I am biased but here is some info on Trustfax

First of all: you can try it for free for 30 days (you have to give your credit card and if you dont' like the service u can cancel it before the 30 days expires)

you get a toll free number for about $19 a year (the most basic version) get some pages for free within that price and anything on top u get charged 10 cents a page.

the fax gets delivered to your email address as pdf. Or you can simply read it when u logon to your account if you dont want it delivered to your email address.

It has a really cool feature of being able to fill and sign forms on line. Eg: if you receive a form to fill and sign, you don't have to print it and fill it.. you can simply print and put your signature online using Trustfax.

In my biased opinion it gives efax run for its money at 1/5th the price! And has more technology that makes life easy!

    Thanks Melih,

I only fax about 5 times a year. A cheap fax machine was going to be around $70. Due to the nature of my faxes, using the services of a print shop at $4 a pop was not going to work, as I need to recieve also. I'm going to sign up this week. I will report back how I like it.

    Best,
    Mikel

If you have a scanner, even a cheap one, you can fax from your pc with a free fax program.

I understand that the scanner represents a larger up-front cost, but it is useful for so many other things; for instance, a scanner and a printer can work well as a color photocopier. Of course many people have all in one printer-fax-scanners for this reason, but you probably already own a printer. I prefer separate devices for scanning and printing.

I have such a scanner (an HP PSC 1315). Would you happen to know of a free program?

Check to make sure you don't already have one included with Windows 2000 or Windows XP. It's possible neither is installed by default but might be installable from a restore disk or the OS disk.

Also, if you have the driver disk for your dial-up modem, there might be fax software on that.

One last free option might be to try WinFax Lite. IIRC, it was freeware until purchased by Symantec. I've never used it but I expect it works like an installed printer (just print to WinFax to launch). Here is a working link to the last free version. It's quite old, so it's anyone's guess if it will work on all versions of Windows, although the page says it does.

If all of that fails, MightyFax is $19.95. It's a nice piece of software (used it myself a LONG time ago).

The XP Fax look great, untill I got to this part :
Faxing Options for DSL or Cable Modems
You can't use your DSL or cable connection for faxing. I'm on DSL.

Thanks for your help though. I am going with Trust Fax.
