Dr.Web - AV

Hello Forum,
How good is Dr Web AV, is it on par with Kav & Nod32.

Improving/up and coming AV, most definitely. On par, not yet.

 

Not quite in the same league as KAV & NOD32, but still a very reliable AV. Very lite on resources. Tech support can be spotty at times though.
I have been using it on one of my comps for over a year and nothing has gotten by it. Very satisfied with the protection DrWeb offers.

Overall detection is not as good as these two.

Recent results over at av-comparatives for on-demand detection, suggest that the rate of missed zoo malware from previous tests is very slow compared to other AV's. So at the present time over at this testing site, it is only reaching Standard Level compared to the Advanced + rating of KAV and NOD. They, therefore, seem to be concentrating on ITW detection

But as with Honyak, it has not let me down in several years of use. I run it together with BOClean and I feel very confident using it as a primary AV, despite its Standard rating.

Very light footprint, very fast updates, good heuristics with generic signatures, and for me, both support and renewal/migration have been very good of late.

Unlike when using KAV and NOD recently ( problems with hotfixes and updates respectively), I have had no major problems with Dr Web, so I keep returning to this AV as a primary scanner.

Have you tried it out, there is a trial.
Dr.Web av has a certain philosophy in detection.

It can be used right out the box. Then you can do a search in this forum for suggestions or settings used by other users that may better suit your needs.

 

Can be used straight away. During your trial period you may only need to;

1. Select a custom install, depending on whether you want to use the email scanner, for example.

2. Remove/hide the additional icons for the scheduler/SpiderMail.

3. Adjust the scheduler if you are not manually updating.

4. Recommended to use a full scan of your disc initially, using ALL FILES and ARCHIVES in the on-demand settings. This will take a relatively long time as the scan speed is slow. But after this initial scan you can change the setting to SELECTED TYPES and deselect archives; this will speed up subsequent scans.

After this, using Smart mode in the SpIderGuard settings, you are advised to carry out regular on-demand scans and check downloaded files by the context menu scanner.

Otherwise the default settings are adequate.

Dr.Web is an outstanding antivirus in my opinion, I use it also, av-comparatives is not the bible when it comes to av protection, yet, some people think so and that's their opinion. I personally take antivirus tests with a grain of salt, including all these different certifications and levels of protection offered that vendors boast about, I like the philosophy of Igor Daniloff and the principle behind his company.

I think you will find Dr.Web to meet or exceed your expectations for a desktop antivirus solution. It is a solid av, which runs lite on system resources, impeccable hard drive scanning, updates flawlessly and second only to Kav in update frequency. Dr.Web antivirus is the best kept secret on the internet. Out of the box, at default settings, it will provide more than adequate protection.

Thanks for your reply, i totally agree with your opinion, after reading ( A Big Bubble ) i also like his philosophy.I have downloaded the program and i am positive it will keep my Pc clean.

Can someone send me a srceenshot of what should be written in the Parameters box for scanning daily, can't get it to work.Much appreciated

Right click on the scheduler icon in the task bar > click open > this will open the task scheduler, you will notice the daily scan is disabled by default, highlight it, then click the edit task button on the bottom of the window, this will open the setup window, click the enable box in the upper right corner, this will enable the default scan schedule or you may change it according to your needs.

I believe there needs to be a blank space between /CUM and the next switch which is /SS- you have it as /CUM/SS-
