Windows Media Player(or other media players) Users: Visualizations

Now here's a topic that's probably never been discussed before.(Or maybe it has. ) For WMP users, I was wondering if any of you use "Visualiztions" on your WMP screen while listening to music. And if so, I would like to know which Visualizations do you use. I'm presently have the WMP version 10 installed on my computer and I have my Visualizations set on Battery: Randomization, which is a combination of all the other visual sub-categories under "Battery." I really enjoy looking at the Visualizations on my WMP screen as part of my music listening experience when using the player. Also, just a few minutes ago, I was clicking through the "Next visulation" button on the player itself for the first time and went through all the "Battery" sub-categories and came to the "Particle" category for the first time.(Which is the reason why I decided to start this topic.) Additionally, I opened the WMP Help page and found out that there are a whole slew of other visual categories and sub-categoriex and that it's easier to access them by clicking on WMP's "View" menu. Is there anyone else here who enjoys viewing the Visualizations on their WMP screen, or the screen of the media player that you do use?

 

For me, I turn off my visualisations. I'm using WMP 11. Turning it off saves some memory and cuts off additional graphics work.

My computer is not that powerful although its a new model so that's why I resort to this.

 

I don't use WMP and no visualisation. Sometimes in Foobar. Sorry no further experience in that.

i dont use visualization as i keep my media player minimized and do other things while listening to my music. also my media player (MPC) doesnt have visualization afaik.

 

I rarely use WMP, never used visualizations. Even on winamp, which I use very often.

 

I used to like the visualizations.
But then I became hypnotized and when I woke up, I found myself standing at the checkout line with a basket full of Microsoft products.

 

lol That's funny, Devinco. I have a friend who says that she does her best to keep away from Microsoft products. But sometimes you got to use them. I like to listen to internet audio sample clips of CDs before buying them, but I would prefer to use the WMP over the RealPlayer any day. I really hate the RealPlayer system of programs. BTW, I'm surprise that there's absolutely no one(besides myself) who uses visualizations with their media player screen.

 

You might try the Real Alternative.

It's because most people like to listen to music while they do something else on the computer.

It's a software/bunch of codecs which is illegal or at least in the grey zone. There have been several discussion in well know Boards, as for example 'majorgeeks' about that. Most of them don't allow anymore links to this application. I also don't allow links on my board to this application, but i allow discussion about it.

Note that distributing so called RealVideo codec packs, which is nothing but re-distribution of codec DLLs copyrighted by RealNetworks, and a few registry keys, is illegal. This is not unique for RealPlayer DLLs, most proprietary software products have this restriction.

It's a gray zone, but i think for the well of this forum(you never know who is reading here) it would be better not to _link_ to it. Diskussion no problem. Same for Quicktime alternative.

I've tried it but I think it's worse than Real Player. I think Tommy is right about it being illegal and all that. One day I played a 30 second audio sample from a CD at amazon.com through the Real Alternative Player, and the 30 second audio clip go stuck in a loop and kept playing through my pc speakers over and over again....EVEN AFTER I CLOSED THE REAL ALTERNATIVE PLAYER! I had to restart my computer to get it to stop. I then decided to uninstall that sick puppy.

Well, same here, but sometimes if you're playing 30 or 60 second audio samples, you have to keep clicking on each individual sample, which then takes you your media player, and then, while you are at the media player, you might as well enjoy the light show for 30 or 60 seconds. Also, I don't know if you ever just play music that you've ripped to your computer through your media player while you're doing chores at home or whatever, but during that time, you can look over at the light show on your computer screen. BTW, I just purchased a new computer and I'm now using the iTunes player to ripp my CDs to and discovered that iTunes has their own visualizations. Check out a few samples from their light show.

WMP (bloated and too commercialized).
WinAmp (the best of breed & it's free).

Just my opinion.

 

Hopefully Amarok will be portet to Win32 as soon as possible, and than everything is perfect.

 

Just so you don't feel too lonely there RCGuy I also use the visualizations on WMP on the occasions I want to listen to music while either doing other things or working on getting lost in meditation-type music & the visualizations to handle severe pain etc etc.

I virtually always choose the Battery randomization for the strongest/smoothest hypnotic effect - similar visual tastes there I guess lol

I don't use WMP ( or any other player ) when I'm online or doing anything else on the PC so the resource issue doesn't come into effect. I had used it once or twice while online ( broadband ) in the past & found it slowed everything down too much to want to repeat the experience. Fwiw, I'm happy enough with the visual options that come with the player & have no need or interest in downloading any others at this time

I mainly use WMP for the visualizations and also because my little stereo sytem isn't very good & the sound quality from the pc is the better of the two by far.

The visualizations are an excellent focal point to "fall into" for meditating with appropriate music & also great to enjoy while listening to more upbeat music imho. ( If you ever get the chance to listen to "In search of the Lost Chord" - a very old Moody Blues album - it's an incredible experience to listen while the visualizations show dimensions within this concept album so apt it almost feels like the music was written with an intentional visual dimension only revealed decades later when technology caught up, imo )

So, there are others who share your taste in "Particles & Batteries" when experiencing music via player

I use Winamp and the Bitchin' visualisation from Rabid Hamster. It's not as extreme or bright as other visualisations and doesn't fill the screen. I sometimes use Rabid Hamsters R4 but find it a bit much at times.
