    Oye, Oye, Oye.

Oh great Wilders Security Forum members. I come to you on bent knee and ask for your learned wisdom.

I am currently using CoreFTP as my default FTP client. I am getting the impression that this solution is not the best solution. I am also quite aware of the fact that the word “best” is subjective.

That being said, what is the best, lightest, most stable FTP client on the market? Preferably, free, but not necessarily.

Thanks to all that volunteer their wisdom.

    P.S.

I have been using WS_FTP for maintaining my websites since 1996. I don't know if it's the best. I just know it works.

Hard to find the freebie. It's over YONDER.

Since I don't use ftp on a frequently basis, I just go with:
    C:\%windir%\system32\ftp.exe
    It's free too. :thumb:

    wilbertnl,
I was of your school of thought. If you ever ftp on any semi-regular basis, you will find that that method is less than adequate.

WinScp is a freeware FTP/SFTP/SCP client for Windows. Support for Putty is also given.

    Ditto.

Free for non profit use. Luckily I work for a non-profit organisation.

Funny, I used Filezilla a couple of years but just today I changed to WS_FTP Home 2007.
And I like it, I guess some more options or I didn't find them in Filezilla.

I appreciate all of the suggestions and of course I expected a variety. My knowledge of ftp is limited, so I might not be as educated on the different features and capabilities as many of you.

Could you please elaborate on the reasoning for your suggestions so that I can gauge whether it would apply to my situation.

Eyo, Eyo, Eyo to you as well dallen.

I've used CuteFTP, WS_FTP, and Filezilla.
Feature wise they are pretty much equal.
I like WS_FTP better than CuteFTP.
FileZilla is at least equal to WS_FTP in features and user friendliness and it's FREE.

Haven't used CoreFTP yet, but I understand it has command line access which is good for automation.

I know it's been said a hundred times before, but try to connect to the server with sFTP if at all possible so your username, password, and data doesn't get transferred in plain text.
All of these FTP clients can use sFTP (which is either FTP over SSH or FTP over SSL).

I use Total Commander, its the best FTP client I ever tried!
It can manipulate ZIP, RAR etc.. and is easy to use. Can be used as Windows Explorer too......

I am giving FileZilla a try, but I'm not going to ignore the other suggestions. The beauty of First Defense is that I can try them all.:-*
