 I can't get my IE home page unlocked! I locked it a few weeks ago using SpywareBlaster | tools, and it worked. When I clicked Internet Options an error message appeared. Now I would like to unlock and make some changes. I unchecked the box and clicked save, but the same error message still pops up. HELP!

    Hi Booga,

Please go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/, and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

    You will see this entry:
    O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
Put a checkmark in front of it, close all IE windows and click Fix checked.

Let me know if that did it.

    Regards,

    Pieter

:) Thanks, Pieter, you fixed it! Just for fun, I made the changes I wanted and then checked the IE home page box again. This time, nothing happened, i.e. the options screen is still accessible. Is this a general problem, or is something screwed up on my computer?

    Cheers,
    Booga

    Hi Booga,

    I'm glad that helped.
I've never heard of that problem before. Sounds like a problem with SpywareBlaster, but it really is no big one.

The option offers only protection if you want to block those options from other users of the same computer. It offers no protection against hijackers, since they can easily make that same registry edit you did with HijackThis.

Some spyware-programs make the same change to try and prevent you from changing your startpage back.

    Regards,

    Pieter
