wmiprvse.exe Wants to Start...

When I start my limited user account. No info available online from DCS database.

Folder: c:\windows\system32\wbem\

Command line: c:\windows\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exe-embedding

Company: Microsoft

File size: 213kb

I have to reject it several times in a row, then it's gone till the next reboot.

What's the story with this?

Started coming up after I upgraded to 3.41.

 

Actually, it's entry in the PG database is here. The -embedding is the command line parameter it's using, if you didn't already know. IIRC, it's usually setup on default by ProcessGuard when first installed (unless you used the work around to use a previous database w/o it being modified).

I'm fairly crude regarding knowlege of all this, but some things have sunk in over the years.

I haven't done any workarounds regarding any databases. Did manual uninstall in safe mode of 3.15, clean install of the new version.

I don't know why wmiprvse.exe started popping up, and when I tried using mouse command to fetch info from the database, was informed it wasn't in the database. I'm glad you posted the link to the database entry.

I saw it was signed by Microsoft, but don't know if that really means it's safe to let it run, was thinking along the lines of maybe it was being launched by/for some miscievious app.

So, sounds like a default Windoze startup item. Thank you for the info.

Usually, it doesn't run unless some program is calling it. I removed it from the protections list (as it was default) to test if I needed the entry or not. For the most part, I really didn't have much need for the entry, but put it to its recommended settings for when I do need to (rarely) run it.
