Is there anyway that the free version of ewido 4.0 can be auto started by windows so that there is no need to manually start the program and keep it running in the background i understand that the resident scanner wouldn't work this way but it would be nice to have ewido available running in the system tray.

The reason i ask is that i like to right click scan downloaded zipped files and
find it a right pain to have to manually start as it takes a while on my old pc
    and then scan.

i understand that many will say just buy the pro version but i did that with
TDS3 and that never delivered on promises so i'm a bit wary of paying again

If I remember correctly, when you start Ewido right click on the sys tray icon and select to startup up.

(BTW I'm using 3.5 simply because of this)

This is greyed out in my Ewido i take it because it has reverted to
free version but i was hoping i would still be able to autostart somehow even
though the resident scanner is no longer active
maybe this would be a good addon in the future of ewido if there isn't anyway
    to get it working now.

Perhaps you could add it to your start up folder

The suggestion given above is well worth trying - just add a copy of the desktop icon to the startup folder; but you may also care to change its properties (right click select 'Properties') then in the 'Run' dropdown box select 'Minimized' so that (hopefully!) it starts up in your tray rather than having the whole GUI.

    thanks for the info guys

this does work to a degree, the ewido program does auto start but it also runs the GUI maximised even though i stressed minimized running but i also still get the program icon in the taskbar on manual minimizing where i would prefer it only appeared as an icon in the system tray,if you close this you also close the system tray icon

just wondering in anyone had managed to get this program to start minimised
to the system tray,i tried Bubba's suggestion in this wilders post www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=142454 but i still get the program starting up with the gui window showing and the start with windows is still greyed out,

i was starting to think that the program was worth a subscription but this problem is now starting to bug me and i cannot find a way of editing the registry for the desired setting to take effect, surely this setting would be of benefit to free users or is this problem just on my PC.

    Hi davjon

Since ewido always try to remove it's startup entry in reg every 5 seconds, so you have to add a startup regisrty key for it in HKCU as follows

add a new string value in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Name it ( !ewido ) without brackets of course

put it's value data = (copy and paste the following line)
    "C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0\ewido.exe" /minimized

or change the path to where you have installed your ewido

reboot and ewido will be there in your system tray calm, nice and minimized.

    Done

    Cheers

thanks for the info Metting but sadly i had already tried this registry
setting and i still got a GUI screen showing on ewido startup although it wasn't maximised it was still covering a large part of the screen and only able to minimise to system tray by the hide main window in right context menu

    just as an update

i decided to uninstall ewido but found no mention of it in the ADD\REMOVE PROGRAMS in control panel the entry seemed to have disappeared since my 30 day trial expired so i installed ewido over the top and once my system found ewido again uninstalled completely and removed all entries in the registry,

i reinstalled a new copy and retried the registry edit mentioned by Metting
and lo and behold the reg entry has worked
