Which Mail-Client are u using folks?

I would like to know which e-mail client u are using.
Do you choose your's because of security issues or more becuase of features and GUI?

As you see in my signature i am personal interestet what members of Wilders are using, as they look at the security of aplications, etc.

 

I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird
- it's faster than MS Outlook
- it's safer than MS Outlook, because I can read emails in text-mode, instead of the 'dangerous' HTML-mode.
- it has an anti-spam function.
- it allows me to store my emails and address-books on another harddisk or partition.
I configured Thunderbird in such way, that opening and closing Thunderbird is enough to get rid of all my spam-emails, which makes me happy as a spam-hater.
Thunderbird was for me the 99%-solution for scams & infections via email without doing anything than installing and configuring it, a one time job.

 

Outlook 2003
It's what I use at work, it does what I need, and I have no problems keeping things secure. I just operate it with the same precautions and measures as my employer does.

It's simple enough to use, and I have preview pane turned off.

 

I'd probably do the same if I used Office programs, but I don't. I mainly use Microsoft Works for all my word processing, database and spreadsheet needs.

 

Thunderbird, all messages forwarded to a gmail account.
Also a yahoo account and a hotmail account (don't use them often)
Finally a webmail account for my admin messages.

Eudora (sponsored mode). While I first got into it years ago for GUI and ease of use, it does have a number of good security features like warning if there's any attempt to auto-send multiple copies. For several versions back, it's included the ability to "hide" its address book(s) from viruses (encryption?).

And some features are just to help reinforce good habits, like warning if you're about to open a possibly dangerous attachment (most commonly exe's and doc's, although there's quite a few others covered). It even has a "hook" so that if you try to open these via Explorer, with Eudora closed, it'll still warn provided they're in your normal (not necessarily default) attachment folder.

 

I've Tried: Pine, Eudora, Mulberry, Sylpheed, i.scribe, Pegasus, Courier, OE, and others I've forgotten about.
Keep coming back to Thunderbird.
There was always something lacking in the other programs. IMAP handling, identity management, lack of spellcheck, etc.

 

Im using becky..best email client ive ever used , never once crashed or lost data.

Yes i have,but I found that it took a lot more resources opening multiple gui windows , like new email ,and address book than becky does.Of course i am using 98se and this may not happen on other users pcs.

I use Pop Peeper. I have numerous email accounts (~15 at the moment) related to my 12 websites. Also, because of the nature of my websites, I get quite a lot of malware in email. Further, because of the purpose of my websites, I solicit email and cannot tolerate false positives.

In the past 10 years I have used Outlook Exp, Calypso, Courier, Popcorn, JBMail, Pegasus, Eureka, Thunderbird, Scribe, Phoenix, Sylpheed, Foxmail, Poco, Bat, PMMail, Vivian, Marlin, MailWarrior, Mulberry, MailCopa, and several others. None of them did the job for me as well as Pop Peeper.

Pop Peeper handles the huge traffic slick & fast. VERY secure. Easy to spot & kill spam.

As to recommendations --
*If you have several email accounts & get lots of mail, I recommend Pop Peeper
**If you have just one or a very few accounts with low mail volume, I recommend Pegasus. However, if you find Pegasus a bit too complex (it is VERY powerful) then I suggest Sylpheed.

NOTE: All my recommendations here are Freeware, but that is NOT why I recommend them. I recommend them because they are superb programs.

Ditto on all points especially the part about "Simple enough to use" for my needs.

 

I find that it (Pegasus) really works in a pretty simple fashion - if you don't mess with the extras. Mine's run "out of the box" with just a few settings such as making read mail transfer to an "old mail" folder. I have 2 email accounts going through it and it came with helpful little notes all over when you first install. I actually read them all

 

I have Mozilla Thunderbird installed but I dont use it much lately since I use Gmail mainly. Gmail notifier in Firefox to tell me if I have new mail.

 

same here except i dont have thunderbird installed.

i did try outlook express and outlook once with gmail (long time ago), but after a particular incident i decided to just use gmail as webmail.

Use pegasus @ work a bit too feature packed for me, it's very robust.
