How about if this would happen on an airplane flight?

Isn,t it now becoming common for them to recall the batteries?

I am annoyed by these facts as Dell is one of the largest Laptop sellers and I just get a feeling that while making a lot of money they just overlook customer,s safety. They must maintain a quality from very beginning.

Phew ! Many thanks for those links, Ronjor and Beer Dog. This had been bugging me a bit and I hadn't got to checking until now. I bought my Dell E1505 laptop on 3/11/06, so that's before the stated beginning of bad releases of April 1, but I wasn't sure of the date. Aside from the date consideration, I find that both of my extended life Li-Ion batteries are model UD260 and not on the list, so I'm off the hook.

I just saw the news (I think it was Headline News) and they showed an old man's pickup truck burned to a crisp. I wasn't paying much attention until I saw that they were holding up what looked like the remains of a laptop.

I noticed a couple of things that seemed peculiar. The guy did not seem like the type that would have a laptop in his old pickup for starters. Second, it was allegedly a Dell and the result of the very defect responsible for this thread. Finally, the guy apparently had bullets in his truck which helped fuel the fire. The truck ended up well done.

I'm not too impressed with this recall.
I now have to go through all the Dell laptops purchased; by the company I work for, over a two year spam to figure out if any of them have the defective batteries.

Simply put... I have a lot of laptops to go through and over half of them are all over North America.

    Fun days ahead.
