    Hello,

I don't know how to manage that: to save the first incremental backup on HDD after the full backup has been moved to DVD when using TI in commandline mode. If I put in the full backup's last DVD, but specify as image location an filename on HDD, I get a full image. I can´t see any option to tell TI that there is a full backup in my DVD drive. TI just looks into the target directory, and because it's empty at this time creates a full backup. Did I miss anything?

    Many thanks for any help.

    Hi,

I'm a bit disappointed I get no feedback on my request, because it's the recommended strategy proposed by Acronis to

    1. move full backups to an other harddisk or removable media (tape, CD, DVD)

    2. do incremental/differential backups till the next full backup in order to save time and storage.

But then it should be possible to do so. Unfortunately, I can't: When I choose the full backup on DVD, TI tries to append the incremental/differential backup to that location which obviously fails. I see no way to direct TI to store the incremental/differential backup on a different location, e.g. harddisk.

If there already exist incremental/differential backups on a harddisk, everything works fine: I just choose the last one, and TI stores the new backup in the same directory. But for the FIRST incremental/differential backup I have to choose the full backup on DVD, an then it fails.

The only way I see so far to is to copy the full backup from DVD to harddisk and do the first incremental/differential backup from there, but this is silly "solution". Hopefully, anybody has got a better one.

    Best regards

    Dear Acronis Support Team,

if you notice how many people have had a look so far into this thread, it is somehow obvious that not only me would like to see a feedback to my request. So please answer my question, even if it should be negative.

    Best regards

i think it's not possible yet,
although it could be quite handy
and even speed up the incremental backup process !
...most of all this shouldn't be too hard to implement
and could easily added in one of the next builds

    (however, personally i wouldn't recommend
storing the first (most important!) full archive file
of an incremental backup to a dvd...)

    Hi bottom,

Appreciate your feedback. To me it's strange why Acronis recommends (for obvious reasons) not to store backups on the same harddisk the image is taken from, but to move it to an other harddisk or external media (e. g. DVD), and on the other side this DVD archive can't be the base for an incremental or differential backup. Let's wait for an answer of Acronis and see if they confirm what you've said.

BTW, why wouldn't you move a full archive to DVD? Where else, if no second harddrive is available?

    Best regards

I am also very interested in the answer to this question. Pretty bad CS for Acronis not to respond even if the feature is not available :( .

    Hello mumdigau,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We are sorry for the delayed response.

Please note that the incremental/differential backup can be created in the same folder (if the full backup is stored on the hard drive) or on the same type of media (CD/DVD disc) where the full backup is located.

Please note that if the full backup is stored on the CD/DVD discs and you creates the incremental/differential backup Acronis True Image creates snap shot of the selected drive/partition and then compares it with the one in the full backup. If the full backup is stored on more then one discs you will need to insert the last volume first and then follow the instruction of the program (you will be asked to insert different volumes several times to complete the comparison and include data changed since the full backup into the incremental/differential backup). If there is no space on the disc you will be asked to insert another empty disc.

Could you please clarify why you were not able to create incremental backup on the DVD disc? Did you receive any error messages?

    Thank you.
