AOL KAV free + Back-up On-demand

Is it definite that you are forced to uninstall existing a-v programmes if you install free AOL KAV? Impression I have got from reading main thread.

I would like to run AOL active and use another as on-demand.

Pref on-demand is Antivir followed by BD.

Anybody doing this?

Anybody running AOL as back-up alongside Antivir or Avast resident?

I'll never understand ppl using 1 main AV and 50 backup AVs.
1 on-access and 1 backup (online based is way more than enough).
And honestly KAV doesn't really need a second scanner. Maybe BitDefender On-Line Scan if you really need backup scanner (because of B-HAVE).
Other than that you should be more than safe with AOL AVS...

Which of these three would you choose as your resident a-v:

Avast, AOL, Antivir.

The more, the merrier logic should NOT apply to software. KISS. I'm no AV expert, but I like the FREE AOL/KAV AV. 2nd choice would be Avast Home.

I should declare some further information.

Until about a week ago I was running Avast - excellent product, fantastic support/forums.

One boring Saturday I downloaded Antivir because it has better detection rates. I then noticed the scan takes 25min versus 1hr with Avast. Also, my speed test has gone from 7Meg to 10+. The kids' PCs have Avast and when we go to the same OZ speed test at about the same time their speeds are way less than mine.

Now I have a problem with Antivir and LnS I'm posting elsewhere and hope to get a fix.

If not, will AOL improve my keep my speed test at 10+? I have MWAV installed and that uses an old KAV engine and that takes 1hr. Will I see an improvement with AOL?

I do have backups installed (MWAV +BD) that I run every now and then when the PC is sat there not being used.

I agree one is enough but it costs me nothing to run another.

If I did install AOL could I keep BD permanently running BDSS.exe?

Some of you change/evaluate s/w for a job/hobby. I'm not that brave, hence my questions.

What should be "speed test" ? Coz net connection is pure theoretical stuff.
In reality everything depends on remote servers and how hard you're hammering your connection from your end...

 

I have been running AntiVir realtime with AOL-KAV on demand for 2-3 days now without any problems. My system seems to run better with AntiVir realtime than with AOL-KAV realtime, tried it both ways.

 

I don't know if AOL/KAV have problems when you have another AV installed. Never use it.

For backup:
If you want the best on detection, use AOL/KAV...
If you want the best on speed, use AntiVir PEC...

I recommend that you use, to backup and complements your AV, an real good AntiMalware and AntiSpyware instead of another AV...

I just downloaded AOL and it did ask me to remove Antivir and BD8.

Not in the mood for uninstaling and re-installing to fool it.

If I can't get my Antivir problem solved then I will have a play with AOL as the resident scanner.

In the meantime I will sit back and read the threads.

1.Stick with the AV that works well for you. DO NOT put two AV engines on the same computer if you demand speed and stability!

2.The best method to gauge throughput speed is to go to Nero.com and download the FREE trial of Nero 7. Use a watch to time the download. Avast and AOL/KAV should not affect the download speed if they are properly installed. Why? Because I've tested both with my rig...2.47 to 2.88MB/sec (avg 2.62), depending on load and time of day (3MB DSL connection).

 

kav is completely incompatible with avast(even desactived).i agree with Rejzor,with KAV,back up av is unnecessary.
