I installed AntiVir Premium trial version today. It seems that the Mail Guard is not functional in the trial version. There are no updates available with the trial version. A person is supposed to try an AV software for 30 days with no virus updates?! I think that is a load of crap. Why is the Mail Guard not functional in the trial version? I don't think much of an AV that doesn't make all the tools available in their trial version. :thumbd:

I downloaded G-data (antivirenkit) to try, this also warned of no updates during trial period, but I installed anyway to check out the proxy it uses. But after installation I noticed that the virus database was 10 months old (database dated nov 05).

I cannot be much of a trial with out of date signatures. I guess one can see if it will run on his system, but even that may not be true with the latest updates.
    A Bummer!

I use the AntiVir Classic free version now and like it, especially after stopping the nag screen stuff, but I always felt in the past that between that and the not so great update servers that the AntiVir folks weren't doing such a great job at marketing. If people have trouble with the free version then what incentive is that to buy the Premium version? Sounds like it's just more poor marketing going on there. I think they need some help in that department...

Hey Kerodo. You have helped me before with some Firewall questions, and I thank you for that. I was now hoping you could help me with a question on the Antivir Nag Screen. I too like Antivir, but would also like to do away with the Notifier Window. How do I do it? I'm running Windows XP, and still have Kerio 4.2.3 Firewall. No HIPS of any kind or anything else running at the moment. I read where other people have done this, but not with Windows XP. That's why I'm hoping, like with my Firewall questions, you now have the answer to this question too.

Duke, I only know how to do it for Win2k. I have no experience with XP, but I'm sure there is some way to do it in XP also. You might try browsing the AntiVir forum and look for older posts on this matter. I know it was discussed in detail many months ago...

One possibility might be to block execution of 'avnotify.exe' with SSM:

Or for that matter, since you're already running Kerio 4 you can probably block execution with that as well.

Why would that work? Isn't that pretty much the same as deleting it, in the main programs eyes? :)

While they might need some help in the marketing department... I think free-av.com is about all the help you would need in introducing yourself to a wide potential customer base. ;)

Remember that u have to deny the start/ launch of avnotify.exe. This option( to monitor the start/ launch of applications) by default is turned off in application behaviour control of Kerio( as far as I can remember).
Pls let us know the results.

Hey aigle, thanks it worked. I didn't see any evidence of the notifier window when sundays update came through. I had the update window set to show minimized, and when that poped up I waited to see if the notifier window would pop up as usual, but your advice to deny avnotify exe. in Kerio's Application Behavior Blocking must have worked. Although the pop up wasn't all that bad, it did sometimes interfere with whatever I was doing on the PC, so thanks again, and I appreciate it. Also to Legendkiller. There is no splash screen at start up other then an Antivir screen that flashes quickly then reduces to the task bar. Although this sounds like a pain, it's not as it does this very fast. Hope i explained this okay, but if not I'm sure aigle will. Take care all.

Ah, that PopUp, I keep it from ever being seen on this WinXP-Pro because it covers the 'maximized' Update screen (minimized stays on top??) and I like to watch what is happening.

Click {here} for Lots more info on methods to eliminate AvNotify on this Thread as well.

As for downloading 'Trial' of AntiVir; When I first downloaded the Win98 Version, I used a 'Mirror' Download site from AVIRA's Download page.

This was a problematic 'Trial' Version, that did not look or work right at all.

Avoid 'Mirror' Download Sites for AntiVir.

Most of the mirrors have old installers.
