I'd run a scandisk on the laptop drive and make sure you don't have any issues with it.

Differences in the USB chipset on your desktop and notebook computer are probably the reason. Some chipsets, in particular those by NEC, work more reliably. That may not be the whole story however. Some motherboards don't handle large files, such as the multi-gigabyte backup files, reliably. Finally, bad memory can be the cause of validation errors.

The memory can be tested with Memtest Plus, a free test utility. Be sure to let it run for at least 12 hours. There should be 0 errors.

Motherboard or USB chipset problems are harder to deal with. Sometimes a BIOS update solves the problem.

    Hello max0071,

Further to John's recommendation to test your laptop's RAM, here is the link to <Memtest86+> that he refers to.

    Hello max0071,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

I'd like to confirm what jmk94903 and Menorcaman said, as problems of this sort are usually caused by the faulty hardware devices such as hard drive cables\controllers, bad memory, faulty USB ports, etc. In your case it is worth checking USB port and memory as suggested by Menorcaman. In order to check your memory you can use Memtest86+ program mentioned above. As for checking the laptop's USB port, you can try copying large files, e.g. disk\partition images themselves, from the laptop's internal hard drive to the external USB disk using Windows Explorer or any other file manager and then comparing their checksums calculated using eXpress CheckSum Calculator before and after the files are moved\copied. If the checksums calculated are different then there is definitely a problem with your laptop's USB port\chipset. We recommend contacting nearest service center or laptop's vendor in this case.

If you have any further questions concerning Acronis software, please feel free to submit a request for technical support or post any of them on this forum. We will certainly try to help you in resolving any issues.

    Thank you.
